Little Known Skin Conditions and Their Cures

The skin is a marvelous organ and just like all organs, it also suffers from conditions and disorders, many of which are perplexing even to doctors. Some of these conditions are difficult to diagnose, usually because of varied symptoms that appear in different individuals.

Thankfully, there are treatments and therapies that can be used to help cure or at least provide relief for these issues.

A Look At Some Common Skin Conditions

Here are some of the little known skin conditions you should be aware about:

Skin Conditions at Birth

Morgellons Disease

Morgellons Disease is a little known skin condition that causes sores that produce solid matter and fibers. Patients also experience crawling sensations on the skin that may include a feeling of something biting and stinging. The itching can often be intense and the condition may sometimes lead to open sores.

For treatment, patients can often turn to antibiotics to help stave off infection and prevent inflammation. The treatment is controversial because it is long term and often requires an aggressive approach. The use of antibiotics over the long term is associated with a number of adverse side effects, some of which can be serious. Patients are also often diagnosed with delusional parasitosis, something that many of them reject, often arguing that the symptoms are physiological instead of psychological.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Hidradenitis Suppurativa occurs only in 1 in every 100 individuals and many of those who are afflicted are not even aware that they have it. This is usually because HS usually starts with mild symptoms. In time, outbreaks can occur and get worse. In some cases, HS is misdiagnosed as cellulitis or boils.

HS, one of the types of inflammatory skin conditions, often manifests itself through the appearance of small to large red nodules under the skin that feel tender. These nodules often appear in the groin, perineum and underarms. Over time, the nodules begin to drain a foul-smelling fluid and scarring can occur thereafter.

To treat HS in its early stages, the patient is prescribed antibiotics and other medications to treat inflammation. Hormone-blocking drugs may also be taken since the condition seems to be connected to changing levels of hormones.

Skin Conditions Caused by External Factors

Argyria

Argyria is caused by the ingestion of silver, usually in the form of supplements. In large amounts, silver can cause a bluish gray color to the skin. Unfortunately for those who have Argyria, there are no known treatments or cures for this disorder. The only solution that people should consider is avoiding supplements and vitamins that contain silver or taking these with extreme caution. Argyria is one of those skin conditions that tend to be permanent and people who develop it will have to live with it for the rest of their lives.
