Male Grooming Tips for Growing a Mustache

MustacheThe “stache” is back.  While mustaches come and go in male grooming, today they are a great way to show off your manliness.

Tips for Growing a Mustache

The following tips can help you to successfully pull off the mustache:

Choose the Mo-ment

Most of the time, growing facial hair has a messy stage that can last up to a week.  Stop shaving on Friday to give the mustache the weekend to begin to fill the upper lip.  A week’s vacation is an even better time to get over the itchy stage.

Choose Your Best Style

Not everyone looks their best with the same style of mustache.  It may be necessary to play around to find the appropriate length and thickness.  Be sure to keep it symmetrical, using a magnifying mirror if necessary.

Keep It Tidy

Most women find an unkempt mustache is unappealing.  Many find it to be equivalent to dirty fingernails.  A good trimmer can keep you looking sharp.

Moisturize

Skin can become dry under the facial hair as it wicks moisture from the skin.  This can cause itching and flaking of skin.  Apply a moisturizer using the fingertips through the hair.

Keep the Mustache Combed

Just like the top of the head, the hair needs to be put in its place.  Small mustache combs can easily fit into the pocket.

Keep the Hair Clean

Without cleaning, you may be carrying yesterday’s soup in the mustache.  This is certainly a great way to have a less than stellar first impression.  Just wash using your normal face wash.

Hair conditioner can help to keep it soft.

Moustache Wax

Wax, gel or putty can help the moustache look its best.  The wax helps to train the hair to hold its shape.  It can also help with longer styles and to define tips.

Shower Before Shaving

The steam and water help to soften the hairs to be trimmed.  Choose a transparent shaving gel or a shave oil in order to better guide the razor where you want it to go.  This can help keep the moustache neat.

Nice article but might I add that folks take into the consideration the shape of their face too…very important. Also, you may want to try actually shaving in the shower. One it saves time, two conditions are perfect! Hope this helps!

I think it’s really important to follow these steps especially when you have sensitive skin.
