Master Esthetician Washington State – A Skin Chick’s Perspective

A Skin Chick's perspective on the Rules Process

A Skin Chick’s perspective on the Esthetic’s Rules Process

This is a blog entry from a person that came with me to the Esthetic Hearing on Monday … we’ll call her ‘Skin Chick’ 🙂   It was her first public hearing and I asked her about her perspective after …. this is what she shared:

“This past Monday I had the opportunity to attend a Rules Hearing for the new Esthetics Bill that was passed. It was an incredibly eye opening experience, and I felt very proud and privileged to be able to attend. The crowd was small in Burlington, but I have a feeling it will be much bigger and crazier down in Olympia. Having never been to a meeting like this before, I really had no expectations except to learn as much as I could about the hearing and the new rules that will soon be put into place.

The meeting started with Ben, the Program Manager, explaining to us how the meeting would take place and what we should expect to happen and gain from the meeting. He was very informative, and very encouraging of people speaking openly, giving input and asking as many questions as needed.

I do think there were some people there just to complain, or speak to hear themselves, but the majority of the Estheticians that were there were really looking for answers, and clarification.

Anybody who attends the meeting has the opportunity to speak and be heard. The only problem I found with this is that there were a few people present who, it seemed, were only really interested in having others listen to them, instead of everyone having the opportunity to be heard. This was very frustrating to my friends and I that attended, because it felt like we were not necessarily being heard and respected for our opinions and thoughts and ideals.

Overall, it was a great experience. I would highly recommend anyone who may be even a little interested in joining a meeting like this, for any reason you can. The process is really interesting, and who knows, your voice may be heard and you can have a part in helping to clarify rules that the whole state gets to see!””

Can’t wait to hear Skin Chick’s perspective next week!
