Each Month Evergreen Beauty College recognizes business student of the months in preparation for the International Business Student of the year competition. Each month the students in their respective fields of Cosmetology, Nail Technician, Barbering and Esthetics are measured on the following criteria to be able to showcase to employers how well they can build a business. Students are measured by the following:

1. Min of 10 of request clients

2. % Customer Service Checklist Completed

3. GPA

4. Attendance

5. % of upservices

6. % of retail to service ratio

7. % of number of guest that obtain at least one product

*8. % of color services

A couple strong notes to make is Jason Tremberth set a new school record at the Everett Campus winning this award 4 months now during is time at Evergreen.  The previous record was set by Carlo DeMarco back in 2009 with 3 months.  In addition, Crystal Dashiell was named Business Student of the Month in her department for the 3rd month.  She will be graduating in the next few weeks and would like to congratulate her.

Kara Hoffman who is a financial aid advisor at the Bellevue Campus for Evergreen Beauty College, put together a short video to share what happen this last month bringing into this exciting new year. In there you we see highlights as well as proudest moments shared from Cosmetology and Esthetic students about their experiences in school.

But, one year later, Evergreen’s biggest tip just got bigger!

I received this email from our campus manager at the Bellevue Campus!  Lesson here is good things do happen to good people:

“Hello Joe,

Just wanted to let you know that the biggest tip that an Evergreen student just got bigger. 

On Monday, Guest Services called me at 7:30 am that a guest was waiting at the front and wanted to speak to the campus manager.  I thought to myself, ‘what happened?  School hasn’t even started.’   When I walked out to greet him, he asked to speak to me privately.  When we sat down, he shared that he came in last Friday to visit one of our students; he knew her because she use to work at the hospital and took such good care of him during the time he was there.  The man shared, “She (the student) worked so hard at the hospital and really took care of me and the other patients.  She’s an incredible young woman; I heard that she was going to beauty school and wanted to stop by to support her.  She’s single mom and is really trying to build a future for her kids and know that she doesn’t get the support that she deserves.   Frank, I’d like to help her out.”

I told him that we appreciate him, because without clients, our students wouldn’t be able to train.  He smiled and continued, “I’m not sure if you understand.  I’d like to take care of her schooling so she doesn’t have to worry about any of the financial obligations.”

I thought to myself, “Wow. I wonder if he knows how much school is?  Many people don’t understand how much training cosmetology takes and it wasn’t a small investment.”  I shared with him the cost of school was investment ($18,000).   He responded, “I understand. Just let me know what the balance is and tell her she doesn’t have to worry about it any more.” 

I said that I would have to speak with the student to ask her permission.  The student was floored as her eyes swelled up with tears.   She couldn’t believe this was happening.   

Two days later and two conversations later, I have a check from him.   The only thing he asked was that he remain anonymous;  he’d just like to take care of the student.   

What an incredible event; it reminded me that how generous and beautiful people are and what incredible students that we have here.  

Just wanted to share this with you and to let the staff and students know to continue to take care of their customers.

This is the 3rd year in a row that Evergreen Beauty College has claimed #2 in esthetics.  Evergreen had all 4 of their students finish in the top 10 in both categories.

Student Heather Dalke of the Eric Fisher Academy in Wichita KS claimed first place in the cosmetology category, taking home $1,000 in cash and a total prize package valued at more than $3,000.  Eric Fisher Academy also claimed a second 1^st Place prize when Student Melissa Alvarez did a triumphant walk onstage to accept first place in the esthetics category, along with her $1,000 payday and $3,000 total prize package.

“It is truly inspiring to see these students so galvanized to be extraordinary using their Nuts and Bolts education,” said Nuts and Bolts President and CEO Jim Yates. “Everyone wants to succeed – that’s no secret; but without the proper foundation and guidelines, it’s like sailing in the dark. And that’s why I’m so gratified to see these students putting in motion all the tools they’ll need to achieve their goals – and our Nuts and Bolts students dream big! I feel like a proud parent.”

Every Nuts and Bolts Member School nominates a top performer to be in the running as an IBSY finalist. The judging criterion is based on: retail sales, up servicing, average ticket sales and overall customer service. Students also had to impress with a 5-minute video showcasing what they’ve learned and how they are applying their Nuts and Bolts training to their career goals.

Suzanne Kroon of Cameo College in Salt Lake City, UT, was crowned the winner of the 4^th annual Sassoon Academy School Connection (SASC) Cut and Color Competition. Kroon’s cache of prizes includes a five-day ABC Cutting Course at the Sassoon Academy in London ($1,560).

More than 175 entrants from SASC Member Schools across North America submitted before and after photos demonstrating their technical skills. The International Sassoon Academy Creative Team in a blind judging process picked the top three winners.

“The Sassoon Academy | School Connection Cut & Color Competition entries have grown by 75% in only one year,” said Stephen Moody, Executive Director of International Education. “This spectacular growth is an excellent indication of the continued emphasis our member schools place on encouraging creativity and education in their schools and our industry in general, and each year, the whole Sassoon Academy team truly looks forward to the inspirational work the SA | SC contestants put forward.”

The awards ceremony, hosted in conjunction by industry partners Nuts and Bolts and the Sassoon Academy, recognized the technical talents and business acumen of 13 Nuts and Bolts and Sassoon Academy School Connection students.
