Cosmetology Student Success Story: Cassie Ausland

Our Mount Vernon campus was excited to award their first hair design student, Ms. Cassie Ausland in this past month’s all school assembly. Creating beautiful work and the belief she can achieve great results is setting her up above the rest!

About Cassie Ausland

Some individuals pursue one or several other career options before entering this amazing industry. However, Ms. Cassie knew this is what she wanted to do after graduating high school. “I chose Cosmetology school for many reasons. Yes, doing hair and making a craft out of something not a lot of people do is exciting and rewarding, but, what beats all of that is the feeling you can give people at the end of a service. I’ve always had a rush of confidence after receiving a service, and just to know that I can do the same is very rewarding. I am a people person, I like to help people, and this field is great at helping people, and even yourself.” shares Cassie.

When asked why she chose Evergreen above the other competing schools Ms. Cassie replies, “I chose Evergreen Beauty College because of the family atmosphere it brings. Of course the location was super convenient for me, but I wouldn’t attend a school just for that reason. When I had my first meeting with Jayna, the admissions counselor, I instantly felt a rush of security. I knew that she would do everything possible for me to go to school and to get into the program earlier than we both thought. Then, when orientation came and all the students met, and the educators introduced themselves, I knew I made the right choice.”

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the Cosmetology program with us Ms. Cassie has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other cosmetologist:

“To be honest, it took me some time in school to realize what I really enjoy in this field so far. I knew I was going in for the satisfaction of helping others while still being able to earn money in the long run but that wasn’t enough motivation for me in the beginning. Beauty school is amazing yet very challenging. Enrolling straight from high school has me as the youngest in the class and that was a big change for me. I found that I had to grow up and mature a lot faster then a normal 18 year old; completely getting out of my comfort zone, and go from having friendships since 1st grade, to knowing no one. Even so, I am so grateful for every moment leading to today. Beauty school hasn’t just been about hair to me, I have built my character, matured, and become a better person. I love my school and my program for challenging me into who I am becoming.”

“Of course all the mannequin and hands on training is what really taught us all of our skills, but personally I have loved the Nuts And Bolts course we’re taking. Nuts And Bolts is a business class Evergreen provides for us so we’re able to step into our career with the business skills needed for this particular industry. In this class we tackle things that are not easy such as embracing change, fear, and confrontation. These courses may seem silly to some, but I know it has benefited many people, including myself. Beauty school is a big change, and this course helped me realize its okay to struggle, but most importantly how to build yourself back up even better for having gone through it.”

blonde wavy hair back“Skill wise I could never compare myself to the other students. Everyone at Evergreen is so talented in their own ways, and its been amazing to see what everyone can do! With me, I believe that I am a good people person. I love to talk and get to know people. I just listen. Sometimes, when people come in to get their hair done, they either want to just relax and have some peace, or they decide to trust you and let you into their life. I am someone who is good at listening and giving feedback if wanted. I have the best personality for this field.”

“I am also a honest stylist. If you want to go blonde and your hair is a level 1 (black) then I will be honest about your hair. That it will take multiple sessions to get to your goal, but we will get there. I am a stylist people can trust. I will only dive into the style if it is something I am 100% confident in to give you the best results, and if I’m not all the way up to 100%, then I will be honest and get guidance from an educator. Having a relationship with your stylist/ client is very important, and I build that right away.” Cassie states.

The Next Stepgirl running fingers through brunette curly hair

Being about half way finished with her program, Ms. Cassie is already setting goals for where she will go to enhance her skills and build her business. “I aspire to work in a salon based in Anacortes for as long as I can, continuing to learn, get better, and build a clientele. Then I hope to have such a strong clientele that I can have the opportunity to have a one man show at my home where I can be with my kids, while still doing what I do best.”

It’s easy to veer of course but Cassie shares advice for the incoming future professionals and those considering beauty school, “My advice to anyone who is looking into Evergreen is simple. DO IT. The schedule seems intimidating, the money, and the hours, but those are minor things that you’ll be grateful for once your completed. I may only be 4 months out of 9 months into my program, but I can confidently say that I am grateful that I stopped the excuses and just did it. The educators and staff are beyond amazing, and you will walk out with buddies that you’ll have for the rest of your life. I am so grateful for this opportunity and I promise you won’t regret it.”
