Cosmetology Student Success Story: Chloe Trout

Our Yakima campus was excited to award another one of their cosmetologist students in this past month’s all school assembly. Creating beautiful work and the belief she can achieve great results is setting her up above the rest!

About Chloe Trout

Familiar to the industry and the impact we have on our clients, Chloe shares ‘why’ the beauty industry. “Before enrolling at Evergreen, I’ve been working as a receptionist at a salon for 3 years, and watching the stylist make people feel beautiful while they leave with smiles on their faces. This helped me decide that I too wanted to make people happy. All the stylist at the salon and my boss encouraged me to enroll and helped me get started with this career path. When it was time to start looking into different beauty schools, the process took me back… I was born and raised in Everett and remember always driving by the school growing up, when I graduated high school I hadn’t decided on what I wanted to do. I remember looking into EBC a little bit but didn’t take it further because I was indecisive on if this would be the career for me or not. Now 10 years later, I moved to the middle of the state and after finding the courage to go back to school, they opened a location near me! I finally took the tour at Evergreen and felt welcomed immediately. Miss Amber, the admissions counselor answered all my questions and made me feel at home right away. So, from there I finished the process and enrolled!” shares Chloe.

The Evergreen Expereince

Since starting the cosmetology program with us Ms. Chloe has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other cosmetologist:

“Since enrolling, I have found that I enjoy all the hair aspects of my program the most. Such as styles, cuts and colors as they allow me to be creative while we help express our clients personalities. Learning all the techniques that allow you to customize a color and/or cut to each client has been really satisfying to me. I’ve also love that there are so many different types of extensions you can add and in different ways. It can be that piece to help complete someone’s style or look they want!”

“Some different assignments that I have appreciated have been all the business education we’ve got from the Nuts and Bolts program (our business program). It’s been fun learning different aspects of the industry as it’s helped get us ready for the real world once we graduate. Our NaB classes have also offered other fundamentals that come with our trade which will aid in our success as we run our businesses. Since I learn best by being hands on, the educators have done great at coming up with fun hands on projects that help my learning style. We’ve made mock hair products, recreated the nail anatomy with clay, and had to open our own new salon within a certain budget…fun, right?”

“As for strengths of mine, I feel it would be cutting hair, I love continually learning new techniques and tips to achieve different shapes and textures for different types of hair. I haven’t had the chance to do a lot of shorter cuts or fades so I want to improve with those but medium length and longer hair is such a joy for me to cut. I believe my desire for continued education after school is a huge strength in this career as well.”

“One of the best things about this industry is everyone is a little different and in their own ways are unique. I think the way I am different from my peers in the industry is that I have more of an unusual, darker aesthetic and prefer anything except the normal expectations. I want to try things other stylist are not comfortable with and create my own methods to help preform services that are not like the normal expectations. Along with this aspect, I also want my clients to feel at home and give them an over all experience that makes them want to return. I like to help others feel comfortable as themselves and give them the courage to express their own style and creativity. I want to be a stylist that helps people embrace their differences and stand out in a crowd if that’s what they want. We all want to belong so this is my way to play apart in the bigger picture for them,” Chloe says.

The Next Step

With her program coming to an end, Ms. Chloe shares what her plans are once she graduates and passes her boards, “After I graduate from EBC I plan to be a stylist at the salon I currently work at as the receptionist in Ellensburg. My boss and the stylist have been extremely supportive to me the whole time I’ve been going to school, they always answer all the questions I ask them and they ask me if they can help me in any way. They are all about continued support and growth. I look forward to working alongside a couple of people who have been in the industry for 20+ years and I can not wait for all the knowledge I’ll learn from them everyday.”

With others like Chloe looking to make a difference, Chloe shares her advice for those that will be where she once stood months ago, “My advice for all future professionals is to enjoy your time while you’re in school, it goes by so fast. Give everything a couple tries, you won’t love every service you learn but always give 100% to the services you enjoy, and keep trying for those you may not like as much, it will show to your clients. Also, take advantage of YouTube and other social media, it’s a great way to pick up on new tips or techniques. Never stop learning!” Chloe offered.
