Dress for Success: Wardrobe Every Cosmetologist Should Invest In

cosmetologist wardrobeAre you in need of the perfect cosmetologist wardrobe? Are you looking for the most affordable way to “dress for success?” If you answered yes to both of these questions, read on. The following information will give you a good idea of some of the clothing and accessories that you should invest in.

Because you are entering the beauty industry, you need to portray a sense of style. It doesn’t have to border on glamorous, by any means. You just don’t want to look sloppy or un-kept.

It’s probably not a good idea to invest in the majority of your cosmetologist wardrobe until you are actually employed. Many spas and salons have a dress code, which you are expected to follow.

Salon Shirts

Salon shirts are readily available at many beauty supply companies, both online and at brick-and-mortar locations.

These shirts with large front pockets, come in various lengths, from hip to thigh. They feature short sleeves that don’t get in the way and are made out of water-resistant material. Nylon material is very easy to maintain.

Apron

Aprons are available in several different materials. They include:

  • Polyurethane
  • Nylon
  • Satin

These aprons, which feature deep pockets, are essential in helping you get through the day as clean and dry as possible. They are typically Teflon treated, water-resistant and stain-proof. Wearing an apron is absolutely the best way to protect your wardrobe underneath.

Vest

A salon vest works much in the same manner as an apron. The main difference is that it’s shorter. Vests are available in several lengths and materials. They typically allow a wider range of unrestricted arm movement than aprons.

Pull-On Pants

Many salons require cosmetologists to wear white, navy or black pants. Pull-on pants are best, due to the comfort factor. Sweatpants and jeans are never considered to be appropriate.

Shoes

Comfortable shoes are a must! Being on your feet all day, you won’t be able to survive without them. Some employers don’t allow open-toed or athletic shoes of any kind.

For safety reasons, always opt for footwear with non-slip soles. Flats or low heels with adequate arch supports are highly recommended. Purchase gel inserts, for added comfort.

In conclusion, you don’t have to spend a fortune on a cosmetologist wardrobe to look professional and be comfortable. All you have to do is shop wisely.

This means take the time necessary to compare prices. Don’t purchase higher-priced items, simply for the sake of convenience. Before you know it, you’ll have everything you need to wear, for your new career.
