Esthetics Student Success Story: Karina Sanchez

About Karina Sanchez

During last two years of high school, Ms. Karina Sanchez, participated in running start through Bellevue College up until she graduated from high school last spring. Karina had the opportunity of experiencing college life before choosing her career path, and after experiencing what it would look like she wasn’t sure if Bellevue College is where she wanted to continue her education. Having a passion for makeup and practicing that natural creativity on her friends for school events, she shares, “I love making them feel beautiful, which alternately made me want to learn more about skin care.”

After doing some research, Evergreen wasn’t too far from where Ms. Karina lived so she set up a tour and met up with a admission counselor there so she could look at what the programs had to offer. “I loved the environment at Evergreen! Everyone I met on the first day had been warm and welcoming which helped me feel comfortable from the beginning,” Karina stated. Even the idea of getting business training through our Nuts and Bolts Business Program further intrigued her interest.

Having to become responsible from a young age pushed Ms. Karina in all that she does, from how she performed in school to all other aspects of her life. “Even though I have people that support me, I am my biggest motivator and with that I know I will take myself far in life,” offers Karina. It is a major accomplishment to motivate and support yourself while focusing on your glow up career Ms. Karina, one area where others tend to struggle in.

The Evergreen Experience

As Ms. Karina begins to prep for her state board examinations; both practical and written forms, she’s becoming to realize her joy in performing facials. “It has been such a rewarding feeling being able to help someone relax as well as feeling beautiful afterwards,” shares Karina. Not only does the client get to relax, but Karina using that time to also leave everything going on in her life outside of the treatment room as she focuses on giving the best service possible to her clients. Seeing her clients smile after their service and loving that glow they leave with makes her feel like she is helping them on a deeper level.

Gained knowledge and marketing skills from social media has been an area Ms. Karina has become more comfortable in. Even from outside of school, Karina has done deeper research to learn different ingredients for products. “Product knowledge is very important to assure I am recommending my clients the right products suitable for their needs,” Karina expressed. Karina also finds herself advertising services we offer at Evergreen through social media in hopes to attract more clientele which has been beneficial for her as she continues to build her brand.

One of her biggest assignments in school that has helped Karina understand the different layers of the skin was the ‘skin and disorders’ project given. This is a project that through a certain period of time, reoccurring clients received a series of treatments that provide me adequate information on whether or not we’ve seen progressed results, almost like a ‘clinical trial’. Having a better understanding on what is happening underneath the layers of skin has benefited her greatly.

Ms. Karina’s goal is to make every single one of her clients feel special. Starting from her consultations, she takes the time to focus on giving her undivided attention while listening to her clients concerns carefully. “During my services I even believe in transferring good energy, which is something that uniquely sets me apart from other estheticians,” Karina shared.

A makeup recreation with pink lemonade as Mr. Karina’s inspiration, has this look bold and beautiful.

The Next Step

As Ms. Karina is finishing up with her program, and is ready to graduate from Evergreen Beauty College she shares plans of working in a spa where she can gain the experience she needs. Expanding her certifications in microblading, dermaplaning and sugaring is of high interest for Karina as well. Within the next five years her ultimate goal would be to own her own business, but before she makes that commitment, Karina wants to learn the business side of the industry by taking those additional classes so she’s fully prepared when the time is right.

The biggest advice for incoming future professional would be, “Using every minute of the program to learn something new. Whether they came to school to learn a specific skill, they should be open to learning everything else. Don’t be discouraged if you aren’t good at something right away, because eventually you will be if you just keep practicing,” Karina adds.

Ms. Karina is set to graduate April, 2020.
