Jennifer’s Inspiration and Schooling
Believe it or not, Jennifer’s main inspiration for becoming a cosmetologist was the hairstyles of the 80s. More specifically, “big hair” and styles that changed almost daily. “Even then,” she says, “I had my hands in someone’s hair every day.”
She attended school two different times, before getting her license. The first school she attended was a dump. Jennifer quit, after a short time, because she felt she wasn’t learning anything. She returned to the classroom, three years later and successfully passed her licensing exam.
This scenario is the perfect example of why it’s so important to choose an accredited school with an excellent track record. The last thing you want to do is waste time and money, especially as a single mom.
A Typical Day on the Job
Jennifer most enjoys doing color, experimenting with techniques and trying different ways of foiling. She works eight hours days, to support her family. However, she appreciates the fact that she can easily take time off whenever her children need her.
One aspect of the business she doesn’t like is that some of her family members don’t understand the extra time and effort Jennifer needs to put in to continually build her client base.
