How to Create the Most Flattering Hair Parts For Your Clients

The most flattering hair parts work well for nearly everyone who lets their hair loose. Straight, curly or wavy hair parts can create interest in the hair style, hide imperfections and highlight assets. Hair parts can come naturally for some people. For others, however, a little bit of work may be needed to manage hair whorls and cowslicks and bring hair in the desired hairstyle.

Flattering Hair Parts

A great-looking hair part can work like magic, changing one’s look instantly. Someone who is so used to looking casual in a middle part can instantly vamp it up with an extreme side part. Think Veronica Lake, for example, or Kim Basinger in L.A. Confidential. When working with a client, it is sometimes so easy to just simply implement a part based on one’s face shape.

However, according to celebrity stylist Ken Paves, no one should ever be subjected to an imposed hair part just because their face is a certain shape. He encourages stylists to work with the client’s individuality, his or her unique personality in order to discover the perfect part for him or her. This approach works remarkably well, considering that some faces do exhibit the characteristics of two or more face shapes and faces do change over time. Nevertheless, having the right parameters will help guide new stylists on what to do.

The Most Flattering Hair Parts

Side parts, left or right – great for wide cheeks and large foreheads; this style also allows you to show off your client’s best angle. Side parts are also excellent for creating the illusion of volume for fine, limp hair. If the part is created in the middle, fine hair simply falls weak to the sides.

Deep side parts – work best for square faces to soften the jawline.

Zig-Zag Parts – work well for middle or side parts and look even more fabulous when combined with flirty bangs.
