Making the Most Profit as a Nail Technician

With the cosmetology industry booming, many nail salons are earning more profits than ever before. Some nail technicians, though, aren’t making as much as they could be. By focusing solely on nails and typical nail services, they are shutting out many opportunities to make additional income. There are some things every nail tech should embrace in order to maximize the profits for their salon.

These include:

Sales and Marketing

While most nail techs don’t operate their salons in this way, the best way to ensure you’re making the most profitable decisions for your business is to consider your marketing efforts just as important as your nail services. You can master hundreds of techniques and methods, and offer all of the hottest designs.

But finding and keeping customers is what pays the bills. The key to keeping clients coming through the door is through marketing.

Give Them More

Over delivering for your clients sets you apart from the competition. This is why clients come back to see you instead of going to the salon down the street. Most manicures are similar, no matter where you go. It is the extra perks customers receive during their treatment that turns them into loyal clients.

Customer Loyalty Programs

It’s no secret that people love free stuff. By handing out punch cards and offering the 10th treatment at a discount, your clients will have an incentive to come back again and again. This is a great way to reward loyalty.

Client Tracking System

Having a system in place to obtain and track each client is paramount in building relationships. Whether they book an appointment through your website, call to learn more about your services or come in for weekly manicures, each customer’s contact information should be saved. This gives you a way to keep in contact with clients through promotions, newsletters, holiday cards and other special offers. It also opens up the possibility of social media and email marketing.

Upsell with Products and Additional Services

There are a number of products you can offer clients to compliment your services. Consider carrying a luxury line of spa products, cuticle oils and nail tools. Selling salon-quality products direct to your clients is a great source of revenue, and can add to your bottom line. Add a pedicure to a manicure at a reduced price, or offer other services since your clients are already in the shop.

If you are ready to begin your training as a nail technician, or if you’ve already completed your training but want to add on some extra skills in order to improve your offerings, you should consider enrolling in a beauty school that offers nail technician courses.
