Insight on Beauty School Graduates’ Resumes/Portfolios

We want to provide transparency for you so that you can get a better understanding of the applicants before hiring in hopes to increase the success rate of a long term employment.

We know you receive many resumes every single day and when you look at the resume and/or portfolio, you don’t know what everything means. As we have many graduates at different levels, we hope we can help you understand that. We have provided a basic key for some of the items you may find in a resume/portfolio from our graduates in the different categories:

“Awards”

Business Student of the Month

This achievement is for individuals who had the highest production in their respective department and schedule throughout the respective month. The following areas are measured:

  1. Minimum of 10 guests
  2. GPA & Attendance
  3. % of Customer Service Checklist Completed
  4. % of Upservices
  5. % of Retail to Service Ratio
  6. % of Retail per Ticket
  7. % of Chemical Services

Business Student of the Year

This achievement is for individuals who had the highest production in their respective department for the entire campus for all schedules throughout the year. The following areas are measured:

  1. Guests Count
  2. GPA & Attendance
  3. % of Customer Service Checklist Completed
  4. % of Upservices
  5. % of Retail to Service Ratio
  6. % of Retail per Ticket
  7. % of Chemical Services

International Business Student of the Year (IBSY)

This achievement is for individuals who had the highest production in their respective department throughout the year and competed against Business Student of the Year students across all Nuts & Bolts schools in North America & Australia in Long Beach, CA at the International Salon & Spa Expo. The following areas are measured:

  1. GPA & Attendance
  2. % of Customer Service Checklist Completed
  3. % of Upservices
  4. % of Retail to Service Ratio
  5. % of Chemical Services
  6. Average Ticket
  7. 5 min video presentation

Retailer of the Month

This award is an individual achievement of the highest sold retail for a particular month for their schedule in their respective department.

Perfect Attendance

This award is an individual achievement that is given month. This is not reflecting the entire program.

“Activities”

Bringing Beauty Back to School Event

This is an event the students self-promote that typically generates 500-700 people from the public per campus to participate in. This community service project provides haircuts, manicures, and skincare services performed by the students for the public.

Externship

This is for individual students who worked in a live salon/spa/shop for 10% of their program as part of their schooling. Individuals who were eligible for this must have reached 90% attendance record as well as 90% GPA.

Imagine Fashion Show

This is an event where the student performed hair styles and make-up applications back stage at one of the largest student run fashion shows in Washington State.

Mom & Me Makeover Event

This an event the students self-promote and has a maximum seat capacity of 120 people that is sold out. This event is a student ran event providing “How To” hairstyling classes, skincare classes and nail education classes.

Northwest NailTech Retreat

This is a weekend of advance training camp that individuals can raise funds to participate in. It is a 3 day camp providing hands on training with Nail Artist leaders on various topics.

Ronald McDonald House Charity

This is a community service project the individual along with others donate their time to provide free haircuts for children living in the Ronald McDonald Housing outside of Children’s Hospital.

Santa Clause Coming to Evergreen Event

This an event the students self-promote that typically receives 300-400 people from the public per campus to participate in. This community service projects provides haircuts, manicures, skincare services for the public along with Santa pictures.

“Certificates/Reports”

Advance Barbering Certificate

This achievement is for individuals who completed an additional course on men’s haircuts (ie. business cuts, fades, and clipper cuts) and passed the test out for the haircut and men’s straight razor shave on a live model.

Dashboard Report

This is a report generated and provided by the Evergreen Beauty College that tracks an individual student’s salon/spa production performance. This will provide service & retail sales, request rates and average tickets.

Nuts & Bolts Business Training Certificate

This professional development program is designed to integrate personal, technical, and traditional business skill sets so that students can more effectively make money, build clientele, and succeed as professionals. This is a 20 week course for 3 hrs a week. To receive this certificate, a student must complete all 20 cornerstones and successfully passing all 5 Capstone Exams. Some key topics are as follows: Knowing Your Numbers & Speaking with a Professional Vocabulary, Analyzing Sale Summary Reports to Benefit Your Business, How to Retail Successfully (Not in a Pushy Way), Getting Comfortable Being Uncomfortable, Developing Your Perfect Clients, Creating a “WOW” Customer Experience, Managing Your Finances, Creating Your Personal Road Map, and Balancing It All: Work, Home, Family.

“Terminology”

Retail to Service Ratio

This is the amount of retail dollars sold in comparison to the dollar amount produce by the individual in services.

Request Rate

This is the percentage in guest that requested for the individual student.

Upservice Rate

This is the percentage of guest that left with at least one additional service

Customer Service Checklist (CSC)

This is the consultation formed used at our school that is filled out when communicating with a guest. It includes the guests’ concerns, upservice opportunities, homecare recommendations and suggested next visit appointment.
