Cosmetology Student Success Story: Amber Ahyakak-Yazzie
About Amber Ahyakak-Yazzie
There are some people who believe that everything happens for a reason. Ms. Amber is one of them, “Before I enrolled in school I was a stay at home mom, who had a passion for makeup. This passion turned into me originally enrolling into the MUA program with Evergreen Beauty College. When the start date got pushed back for that particular program, I reached out to my Admissions Counselor to see if there were any other programs that had makeup incorporated in the curriculum. That’s when I got introduced to Cosmetology.” Amber states.
The Evergreen Experience
Since starting the Cosmetology program with us Ms. Amber has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far, and what sets her apart from other cosmetologist; “I really enjoyed doing styles when I first started the program, I was finding that I was doing a style almost everyday. But after being here for a little over a year and getting to do a little bit of everything, I came to find out that I love everything about Cosmetology!” Shares Amber.
“I really love our diagrams. In Phase 1 we get head diagrams where we go over the proper guidelines of a haircut, color placement, etc. Being able to reference back to those diagrams have really helped be when I am stuck with a client because I am a visual learner. So, seeing the steps written out next to the head diagram really helps!” States Amber. “One thing that I feel sets me apart from other stylists is I like to set a positive atmosphere for my clients. I engage in conversation and really listen to what it that they are looking to achieve.”
The Next Step
When Ms. Amber finishes up her time at Yakima campus, she hopes to apply to a local salon, where she will gain 6 months to a year of experience, and build up her skillset, experience and clientele. After that point, Amber would like to return to school, get licensed in Esthetics and then take our Instructor Training program to become a educator herself. When we asked Amber to share advice for future students she explained, “Never miss school and always give 100%!”
Ms. Amber is set to graduate in November 2021, and if you are interested in following Amber throughout the rest of her journey into the industry, you can check her out on Instagram: @ambers__beauty__ Congratulations Ms. Amber!
