Cosmetology Student Success Story: Brandon Bunker
Recognized at our North Seattle location this past month was one, Brandon Bunker, as he rears the end of his porgram. One award Brandon will be sure to add to his growing portfolio for years to come!
About Brandon Bunker
Like many others before him and sure to be many after, Brandon entered into the beauty industry for the first time not long ago. Not happy in the field he once pursued, he set out for something fun and fresh, “I decided to get into the industry, more specifically Cosmetology because I was tired of doing the same thing everyday. Working for a bank and being confined to an office setting where I’d sit at a desk all day just wasn’t for me. I needed something that I could look forward to each and every single day. Cosmetology lets me do something new and exciting every day, all while helping others feel beautiful! My path originally aligned with Evergreen Beauty College in a unique way, they kind of chose me. I started off apart of the Toni & Guy Hairdressing academy, and Evergreen took over ownership in January of this year. Even though I may not have started out apart of the EBC family, I can honestly say I love the changes that have been made to the curriculum and I feel like I am getting the most out of my education and training now!” shares Brandon.
The Evergreen Experience
Since starting the cosmetology program Mr. Brandon has shared some of his highlights of what he has enjoyed, what has helped him so far and what sets him apart from other cosmetologist:
“One thing I love about my program is the love I have for color services! More specifically, fashion colors are my favorite. It’s so much fun to see the total transformation once the color is complete and the hair is styled. It can really change a persons look and self confidence.”
“Believe it or not, timed tests are some of my favorite assignments I’ve had while in school. I like pushing myself to increase my service speed and improve my time management. Even self timing services gives me the opportunity to increase speed while providing an excellent client experience. It really helps get you prepared for the ‘real world’ and what our clients will expect walking into a salon.”
“Being in school where I have learned a tremendous amount of techincal skills over the course of my program, I feel confident when I say my strengths are: short women’s cuts, color services, and thermal sets. I also love creating big beach waves and bold Hollywood curls! It goes back to that transformation I love seeing. ”
“My attention to detail is something that really sets me apart from other stylist. It’s important to me that what I produce is the highest quality I can provide. I want every client to feel like a million bucks before they walk out of the door. I can offer my clients consistency, accuracy, and personality. Providing my clients with the style they’re seeking while maintaining a friendly demeanor.”
The Next Step
With only a few months left until Brandon graduates and steps into this beautiful industry, he shares whats up ahead. “When I graduate I’d love to find work in a high-end salon and to pursuee education training, and travel as a brand ambassador. Eventually, down the road, I’d love to open my own salon, and offer continuing education for professionals as they come into the industry. Being that platform for other beauty professionals to belong to as they become their best,” offers Brandon.
“If I could leave advice for anyone looking to change careers and start new, it would be that it’s okay to be nervous about learning something new, just don’t let the nerves hold you back from being amazing. I never thought I’d be in cosmetology school, but I am thrilled I made this decision for my future and I know you will look back and feel the same!” Brandon shares. It’s never easy trying something new, but Brandon is right… you have to believe in yourself and not be afraid to show the world what your made of.
