Cosmetology Student Success Story: Cassidy Chambers
About Cassidy Chambers
Not a lot of people know exactly what their future is going to look like. For some, it comes to them right away, but for others, they have to try something different first before they realize it’s not actually what they want to do. Ms. Cassidy Chambers is one of those people. “Since I was young I have always been interested in Cosmetology. It wasn’t until I was almost completed with my first quarter at Skagit Valley College that I realized I wanted to go to school for hair instead. I started at Evergreen the following fall.” There are so many other beauty schools out there that you can apply too. We asked Cassidy why she choose Evergreen, she shares, “I have heard great reviews from some past graduates which really peaked my interest. Also it helps that the Mount Vernon campus opened up, which is a really convenient location for me to commute to.”
The Evergreen Experience
Since starting the Cosmetology program with us, Ms. Cassidy has shared some of her favorite parts of her program so far, “My favorite part about the program is the constant change. The more I learn and improve, the more excited I get about all the different services that I can offer. With every month I am here, I gain a new favorite.”
“My current specialty would have to be perms. I have gotten the chance to do multiple different types of perms on different clients, and to be honest, I also find the chemical process behind how they work to be very fascinating,” Cassidy explains. People may not know, but there are little lessons and assignments taught in school that can be very beneficial for a future professional. One assignment that Cassidy finds to be super helpful are Bingo sheets given to her by her educators. “I find that our bingo sheets we complete every month are very impactful to my learning and skill set. These are really helpful because they give us the opportunity to complete all different services that we may not get on a daily basis. It’s also nice because we can ask our educators for help and advice as we complete each bingo box,” shares Ms. Cassidy.
As we talked with Cassidy, we ask what sets her apart from other stylist and she shares, “I have a strong work ethic and the drive to learn how to do things correctly and how to create a very well outcome for my clients. I strive everyday to give my clients the results they desire. I listen to the client’s wants and needs and use clear communication to ensure that we are on the same page before beginning the service so my clients leave satisfied so they want to rebook with me.”
The Next Step
When Ms. Cassidy finishes up her time at the Mount Vernon campus, she hopes to apply to a local salon, where she will gain 3-5 years of experience, and build up her skillset, experience and clientele. After that point, she desires to rent a chair from a salon, and start her own business from there.
Advice that Cassidy has for any future students is, “Accept all of the help and advice you can get from the educators and the other students. Everyone is at different levels, and has different things to offer, regardless of how long they have been at the school. You will never stop learning.” What great advice Cassidy has given that she hopes helps future students with their schooling.
