Cosmetology Student Success Story: Lucy Moore
About Lucy Moore
When it comes to our North Seattle future professional Ms. Lucy Moore and the road that led her to where she is, it’s almost as if the industry chose her. “I basically grew up in my best friend’s moms salon, sweeping hair and folding capes.” The decision to pursue this career path was a no-brainer, “I knew I wanted to go into beauty because that’s what I’ve always enjoyed being around. I love playing with hair.” Being that Evergreen offers a multitude of programs, Ms. Lucy had to decide between pursuing skin care or hair, so as she sees it, “I chose both, mainly focusing on hair.” Before enrolling in our Cosmetology program Ms. Lucy had just completed her high school career and was ready to dive into the world of beauty.
The Evergreen Experience
We are recognizing Ms. Lucy for her achievements in self marketing while working towards her Cosmetology license. Ms. Lucy is making her way through her program, and has had the opportunity to perform a rounded set of services both on her guests and on her mannequin. With the building of her skill and confidence Lucy shares, “So far I have fallen in love with haircuts, specifically men’s cuts, textured women’s cuts, and precision cuts. I love barbering and haircuts in general. I like color too, but I thrive off of executing a good hair cut.” It is in cutting that Ms. Lucy feels her technical strengths lie.
Aside from the time she spends with her guests, the aspects of her schooling that she has found to be the most helpful has been our business training program Nuts and Bolts “It teaches you how to handle your finances, own your own business, and grow in the business world, which I think is so helpful because I definitely want to own my own business.”
When asked to ponder why she chose to pursue her dreams with EBC, Ms. Lucy shares that besides the fast commute to our North Seattle campus “I chose Evergreen because I loved the culture, and I like that it isn’t attached to any brand. Evergreen is so family oriented that everyone here feels like family to me and I look forward to going to school every day!”
The Next Step
Looking ahead Ms. Lucy would like to start out in a barber shop or a salon that specifically specializes in haircuts, where she hopes to really focus and hone in on her current passions in hair cutting. “Then if I end up wanting to venture into color I can do that after I am more established in cutting. Overall, I eventually want to own my own chair and then own my own salon/shop, within the next 10 years,” adds Lucy.
Part of owning a business and building a loyal clientele is curating a brand that keeps people coming back. Ms. Lucy feels her personal touch is in the service experience she provides, as well as her hair cutting. “I can offer you a personalized service to your needs. I also love cracking jokes, and having fun with my clients, it makes both of our days so much better. I always look forward to catching up with my clients.”
Ms. Lucy thinks that what makes her a standout stylist in the making is her ability to connect with clients and really make them feel special, because they are to her. She shares “I am very dedicated to making a cut fun and interesting, or keeping it classic and chic, I love finding the right cut for each person!”
For incoming students Ms. Lucy has some simple but timeless advice “Take it all in and take everything one step at a time! It’s so much fun, you will meet the best people in school, but take it day by day and don’t try to rush anything!”
