Hair Design Student Success Story: Anna Katherine Shaw
Our Renton campus was able to recognize one of their Hair Design future professionals this past month in an all school assembly. Setting the example and connecting with her clients Ms. Anna Katherine Shaw walked away with an award not everyone receives in beauty school. Congrats Anna!
About Anna Katherine Shaw
“Before I started school, I nannied and was a student at the Bellevue College working towards a different field. Wanting to broaden my knowledge in another direction, which is one of the reasons I chose the Hair Design program at EBC was for my love of hair because nothing really compares to seeing how happy people are when they get that dream hair look! I wanted to be apart of that experience. Which lead me into looking into beauty schools. I had a couple friends that already went to Evergreen Beauty College and they both loved it there. During their schooling I also had the opportunity to be a client for them and I loved the environment and how hands-on the instructors were. I felt that I would be in good hands by choosing Evergreen to begin my journey in this industry,” shares Anna.
The Evergreen Expereince
Since starting the Hair Design program with us, Ms. Anna has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other hair designers:
“Since starting here at EBC I would have to say the thing I have enjoyed most is being able to be creative in everything I do. It’s also so fun to be able to do something different every day whether its hair cutting, styling or different chemical processes! I’m not a person that can sit still and do the exact same thing everyday so having the variety is exciting. Props to those who can though! Also, having the online workbook with a physical textbook has really been helpful for me and my learning style.”
“So far out of everything I’ve learned, I’d have to say I’ve found to love a good balayage! I would consider this a strength of mine. The dimensions I can find and pull in the hair and the placement I can visualize is just such a great creative outlet! Plus, I get to make someone happy in the process.”
“Clients of mine along with others from school have told me I seem to just “get it” or have a natural talent and intuition for hair and knowing what to do with it. So I think that’s something that sets me apart. I also like to be very vocal with my clients. Making sure to go over every detail of a service with them to make sure we both understand what they want and make sure they are getting exactly what they want. I also explain as I go so that in the future, they know how to be more specific. So in the end, it benefits both of us!” Anna states.
The Next Step
We asked Anna what her next steps are once she graduates and she shared, “As of now, I have been approached by a salon to work as a hairstylist but of course, I want to salon shop until then so I may have some different options by the time I’m ready to graduate. Giving me time to find the best fit for me! That way I can work in a salon and finish my degree in college.” explained Anna.
“For anyone looking into beauty school at EBC, my advice would be to miss as little school as possible! That way you’re not missing important demonstrations or other theory lessons. If you do this you’ll have the chance of graduating early and getting started in the industry that much more quickly,” offers Anna.
Ms. Anna Katherine Shaw is set to graduate this coming November 2019 and what better way to support her other than to stop by our Renton campus!
