Hair Design Student Success Story: Bobbie Lee Stokes
About Bobbie Lee Stokes
Like everyone else, Bobbie worked and has overcome different obstacles before she started beauty school. “I was working the typical 9am – 5pm and was making a good living but I wasn’t really living, if that makes sense. I also wanted to finish what I started back in 2011. Even though I may have a few worries or fears about being successful in this industry, I still want to give it a full shot and learn the ropes to find out what exactly this industry can offer me before I would consider giving in and getting into something else,” shared Bobbie. With the goals Bobbie has, Evergreen doesn’t doubt you’ll make an impact on this industry and we can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
When Bobbie was ready to get back into the swing of things, Evergreen Beauty College in Renton worked out because we were close to her home, which made that transition a little easier for her.
The Evergreen Experience
Since starting the Hair Design program with us, Bobbie Lee has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her along the way in a learning aspect and what sets her apart from the stylist next her.”
“When my educators or guest speakers demo using a live model vs. a mannequin head has been the most helpful so far in my program. The hair and head shape of a mannequin are horrible compared to that of a person and you don’t get a full feel of how it feels and looks when doing hair on the mannequin like you would on a person. Being able to see the cuts align and fall naturally with different face shapes connects more with me” states Bobbie.
Bobbie says, “Men’s hair cuts like shadow fades, skin fades, and bread trims is something I enjoy doing. I also love doing anything with fashion colors. These services you can really express yourself through your hair, which is the part I truly enjoy.”
“I believe we all have different qualities that make us unique and it’s just finding the right stylist for you. If I had to pick something that may set me apart from other stylist is the sheer fact that I’m honest, understanding and nonjudgmental. If I honestly don’t think a look will work or look good on you I will let you know my thoughts and my solution to get you closest to what your aiming for. Now, as for clients that book with me will tell you, I’m consistent and is always going to be honest and tell you my professional opinion. I’m always growing and keeping up with latest products, trends and techniques,” shares Bobbie.
The Next Step
Bobbie shared her next steps once she completes her time at Evergreen Beauty College, “My goal is to work at a salon/barber shop for a few years and then I’d like to open my own shop after that. I will try to set apart my salon from most modern salons that are out there currently. I have a floor plan, budget, and marketing plan that I hope will drive the clients to not only come to my salon but to keep rebooking as well,” expresses Bobbie.
“As for any future students looking to enroll into beauty school, my advice to you would be to invest in yourself. Make you worth it because you are worth it. When everything else fails or disappoints you, you’ll need to pick yourself up and keep moving on up. Remember you are here at this point for a reason!” says Bobbie.
