Hair Design Student Success Story: Emily Anderson
I get the pleasure to share yet another success point for this lovely lady at our Everett campus. Not only is Ms. Emily Anderson setting goals, and reaching them this soon in her hair design program but she is making a name for herself along the way.
About Emily Anderson
“I chose cosmetology school because I have always wanted to do hair. In high school I ended up styling all my friends hair for school dances. Before school currently at Evergreen, I was attending another cosmetology school. I did not fit in with the environment and I dropped out. I thought I had failed and wouldn’t succeed as a hairstylist even though it was what I knew I wanted to do. I gave the beauty industry one more shot. I thought I knew what to expect but when I came to evergreen I felt so welcomed and the program design was a good fit for my schedule as a mom,” confided Emily. Evergreen is so happy you gave this incredible industry another shot because you have a true stylist knack for it. You fit well into Evergreen’s culture and we couldn’t be more proud of you for taking that step!
The Evergreen Experience
We asked Ms. Emily what were some things that she liked about her Hair Design program and what types of assignments she has felt helpful to her so far within the curriculum and her response was, “What I liked the most out of my program is hair coloring. I absolutely love the versatility of hair color and what it can do for someone. I’ve seen people walk out with their head held high and flipping their hair in every mirror on the way out. Making people feel great about themselves makes me feel good, inside and out. Even our “look book” project we had during my first two months of school was one of my favorite projects because it gave me a chance to print off my own work and showcase it. I will be adding more of my own work to my portfolio throughout school so that I can look back on my progress. With each photo I can remember almost exactly who that person was and what they talked to me about,” shared Emily.
“I feel like my strengths are communication and memory. When I have someone I’ve never met in my chair I do my best to ask questions about their lifestyle, work, and anything else the want to talk to me about. I have noticed I get a lot of people who are going for a big change. Recently I had a wonderful woman in my chair and she was my very first client on the salon floor. I was nervous but I ended up feeling very comfortable. She was kind and patient with me. She came back 3 months later and she was impressed with how much I remembered about her and her family. I enjoy doing those services because it makes such a positive impact on their self esteem.”
What sets Ms. Emily apart from her fellow stylist and why should we book with her you ask? “Clients should book with me because, I love everything about hair design, I give my best and pay attention to detail. I love doing balayage and fashion colors. The school has given me opportunities to perform many services and I am comfortable with most of them! I think what sets me apart is that I know from experience at another cosmetology school how rough it can be in the industry and going to school. I’m glad that my previous experience happened because I appreciate my education now SO much more. I know and I can see it in the educators that they really care about us and we aren’t just a number,” expressed Emily.
The Next Step
With more than half of her hair design program left, Emily is already making plans for after graduation. “My career plans after I graduate are to work in a salon like Elle Marie and get my experience in. Hopefully down the road I will be established enough to open my own salon,” shares Emily.
Emily leaves us with advice to pass along, “Some advice I have for upcoming students is to not be intimidated. Everyone starts somewhere. We’re all going through things, some at different stages but we all start in school. Everyone gets nervous about the process but the staff at Evergreen make it a very painless process. They are genuinely there to help you.”
Ms. Emily is set to graduate this January 2019 and what better way to support her other than to come and get a service done from her at our Everett campus!
