Nail Technology Student Success Story: Khuanjira Srihawong
About Khuanjira Srihawong:
If there’s one thing this year has taught us it’s that life can be unpredictable. While it can be frustrating to have to suddenly and completely rethink your plans, it often times leads to another beautiful path in life. This was the case for Ms. Kwan, who quit her restaurant job of five years to move to LA in March, but then was faced with the news of the shutdown due to COVID-19. After doing some thinking, Kwan decided to stay in Washington and buy a Thai restaurant with a friend. It wasn’t until a phone call with her mom that made her realize what she truly wanted to do. “There was one day I was about to drive to get my nails done and my mom called me, my mom said ‘if you like nails so much then why don’t you go buy a nail salon instead of buying a restaurant?’ After that I did some Google searches where I found Evergreen Beauty College. I reached out and emailed the school to apply thereafter,” Kwan shares, “I don’t see typical nail salons do nail art. I love beautiful nails and I love art. It would be nice if I could do what I love and make it my career.”
Choosing the right school to attend can be a little scary, but Ms. Kwan gives us the simple explanation as to why she chose Evergreen Beauty College: “I contacted many beauty schools, but Evergreen took better care of me than any other place. Credit to Jessica; one of the admissions representatives, she took care of me so well and up until I started my first day at Evergreen Beauty College.” From there, Ms. Kwan started her journey to become a Nail Technician!
The Evergreen Experience
Since starting the Nail Technician program, Ms. Kwan’s creativity and love of what she does has shone through. Kwan has recently received an award acknowledging her dedication to building her business and showcasing her work. Kwan shares with us that her biggest strength in the program so far is her nail art and style and that’s what sets her apart from other Nail Techs. From the very beginning, Ms. Kwan was in love with the design aspect of nails and that is reflected amazingly throughout all of her work.
When asked what her favorite assignment in her program was, Ms. Kwan answers by: “Looking for clients to be my model because I get to see my friends, mom, brother, and I love doing their nails for them. Loving that moment when I’m done doing their nails and they’re happy with them.” At Evergreen, we run a simulated salon and spa experience where the school books clients for the students to practice on. In addition to this, students also have the freedom to book their own models. This teaches them to market themselves and take the initiative to build connections and keep their books full, as Ms. Kwan has done.
The Next Step
Ms. Kwan was a natural from the beginning when it comes to nails, but she still continues to grow and wow us with her art and designs every day. With graduation coming up in just a few short months, Ms. Kwan shares with us that her long term goals include being a business owner and opening her own nail salon/studio to dedicate herself to nail art.
We love asking our students what they would let our incoming future professionals know before starting school, Kwan’s answer: “You will get to learn so many things here at Evergreen Beauty College, and my nail educator, Mimi, is so dope and nice.”
