Cosmetology Student Success Story: Amanda Pierce

At our Renton location, staff and student body congratulated a fellow student this past month as she was recognized in an all school assembly. Ms. Amanda Pierce has always been behind the scenes as she focused on others in her past endeavors, so we were excited to recognized her efforts as she stepped up her social media outreach. Focused on her path and the success tools to get her there, I get the privilege to share her journey this far.

 About Amanda Pierce

“I’ve always been in to art, whether that be painting, drawing, etc. I started doing makeup and hair for friends just for fun, until I realized this was a career path I could take and totally love. I was a freelance makeup artist for a few years before I thought I really needed to improve my life and my credentials or I wasn’t really going to go far! So I started looking at schools and a friend of mine had went to Evergreen. I took the tour and loved it! Other reasons I chose Evergreen Beauty College was because it had everything I needed in a school. I love the schedule that allows for free time or time that I was still able to work, it has the Nuts and Bolts business program, and everyone I met on my tour seemed to be so welcoming. I loved the feeling I had while touring there vs. other schools!”

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the cosmetology program with us Ms. Amanda has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other cosmetologist:

“I like the diversity that the cosmetology program gives you. So far out of everything I’ve learned, I would have to say that my favorite aspect of the program is color, cuts and styling. I can pass on the perms, haha, I’d rather stick to the more creative fun side of services that I can offer.  As for assignments I’d have to say that I like anything hands on; like box braids, on our mannequins, practicing updos on other students, etc.. I feel I learn best when I can watch something be done and then actually get the chance to try it on my own.”

“Strengths? I think I’m pretty strong at hair cuts and colors. They are my favorite things to do and make such a huge difference in someone’s appearance.”

Having experience in the industry has allowed Amanda to start her cosmetology career off in the right direction and has only helped her while attending school. “What sets me apart from others is that I’ve had my own makeup artistry freelance business for quite a few years. I already had a background in art, especially makeup, and some hair here and there and that really helps the learning process,” Amanda shares.

“I can offer kindness, my ears, as well as my professional beauty skills to any clients looking for someone that will truly take care of their needs. I think I’m a great listener and some people really need that. Some people do not just come to the salon to look better, they want to feel better and sometimes they just need someone to talk to. I am here for whoever needs me. This quality in itself sets me apart,” states Amanda.

 The Next Step

“After I graduate and get licensed my plans are to work for a friend of mine. This friend is opening an all lady owned collective shop: tattoos, piercings, aesthetics, hair and makeup and I’m super excited about joining her team. I’m sure I will be very successful there doing the services I love most. I can continue to be my own boss while helping to improve others self esteem!” expressed Amanda.

As Amanda is headed into the last half of her program at Evergreen Beauty College, we asked for Amanda to share some words of advice to those that will soon follow the journey she once took, “Don’t be afraid! I was so afraid my first day on the floor taking actually clients. So if you’re sensitive- there’s nothing wrong with that.. just know, someone is going to make you cry at some point and that’s ok. Just brush yourself off and move on. It’s a school, you’ll see every walk of life there and you’re gonna run in to some things along the way. It’s important to let yourself be human, make mistakes, but learn from them! You’ll be ok!”

Ms. Amanda graduates next May 2019 and what better way to support her passion other than to stop in and get glammed up with her at our Renton campus!
