10 Most Popular Skin Care Tips

Skin care tips are one of the most talked about beauty topics.  Everyone wants to have healthy, glowing skin. Fortunately, there are a number of things that people can do to keep their skin healthy. Below are 10 tips that will keep the skin healthy:

Protect Your Skin From the Sun

You need to get about 15 minutes of sunlight every day so that your body can create vitamin D. However, the sun contains ultraviolet rays, and excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays can cause sunburn. It can also cause premature aging and increase the risk of skin cancer. That is why you want to wear sunscreen.

Do Not Smoke

Smoking causes your skin to age faster by decreasing blood flow.  If you smoke, then you should quit.

Keep Your Stress Level in Check

Stress is one of the things in life that is impossible to avoid. However, it is important for you to learn how to manage your stress. Uncontrolled stress can cause acne and other skin problems.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the face. This is something that you will want to do at least once a week. Exfoliating your skin will leave it looking smooth and clean.

Avoid Products That Contain Harsh Ingredients

It is important to remember that all skin care products are not created equal. Many over-the-counter skin care products have chemicals that can harm the skin. Sulfates, petrochemicals and parabens are examples of harmful ingredients. You should always read the label before you buy a product.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Your skin has to get the right nutrients in order to stay healthy. Lean proteins, whole grains, vegetables and fruits contain the nutrients that your skin needs to stay healthy.

Drink Plenty of Water

Water helps hydrate your skin. It also helps remove toxins from the skin. That is why you should drink at least eight glasses of water every day.

Keep Your Skin Moisturized

Moisturizing your skin will keep it looking and feeling healthy.  This is especially important during the fall and winter months because the skin is more prone to dryness.

Limit Shower or Bath Time

Long, hot showers or bath can remove natural oils from the skin.  For that reason, you should limit shower and bath time to 20 minutes and wash in warm water.

See a Dermatologist Regularly

A dermatologist is a medical doctor who has received extra training in skin care. You will want to see one of these doctors at least once a year.

You say “Long, hot showers or bath can remove natural oils from the skin.”

I was taught at University that the body’s first line of defense is the skin, It’s kept acid because most invaders can’t grow in acid.

So what do we do? We use alkaline soaps and body washes to remove the natural acids, exposing ourselves to all sorts of bacterial infection for several hours until our skins can build up the acid again.

Vitamin D from the sun is absorbed through the skin over 24 hrs – unless you wash it off!
