Are Online Esthetician Courses Available?
The beauty of online esthetician programs lies in the flexibility they offer to budding skincare specialists. If you’re a skincare enthusiast who likes to bask in product during your nightly routine, loves learning the cleanest and most effective ways to hydrate your skin, and enjoys giving others insider tips on how to improve theirs, you may be inclined to dip your toe into the world of esthetics.
Learn if esthetics is right for you, whether that means touring the campus and meeting the faculty and students to get a real sense of what an on-campus esthetician program is like or enrolling in an online course.
Do your state board requirements accept online hours?
One of the main concerns for many would-be students is whether they will have the flexibility in their work and life schedules to take classes on campus.
The first step is ensuring that online education is permitted in the state where you plan to practice esthetics. Different states have different licensing requirements, and you may need a certain number of on-site hours.
In Washington state, esthetics programs require a minimum of 750 hours of instruction. Not all of the required hours can be completed online since students must complete a certain amount of hands-on training and be present on campus.
Read more on the steps you’ll need to take if you want to become an esthetician.
Meet the prerequisites before enrolling in an esthetics program
Students must meet course prerequisites before enrolling. In most esthetics courses, the only requirements are having a GED or high school diploma and being at least 16 or 18, depending on the state. Talk to the beauty school you’re interested in to learn more about eligibility.
In Washington state, students must be 17 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. There are some exceptions to this rule. Check with each individual school on requirements.
Get hands-on training with real clients
While online courses offer exceptional convenience and flexibility and provide valuable time for students to process information, helping students gain hands-on practice with real clients is essential for a comprehensive education, especially in the beauty industry, where practical experience is crucial.
The requirements for on-site training can vary depending on the state you choose to study in and the esthetic program you opt to attend.
For esthetician students, spending time with clients is vital for understanding different skin conditions in the flesh and providing effective treatments. Whether you favor an online learning environment or being present for class in person, gaining practical experience with real clients is key to becoming a successful professional.
Become a licensed esthetician
In a certified esthetician program, students will hone skills beyond beauty treatments, learn to communicate effectively with customers, and develop business management skills. Additionally, students will apply many real-world skills in the esthetics program and throughout their careers.
Evergreen Beauty College offers a comprehensive education for students interested in the beauty industry. As an accredited school, it provides financial aid options to help students fund their education. The college’s traditional esthetician program includes online programs and hands-on learning experiences, ensuring that students receive theoretical and practical training.
Our esthetician program is designed to equip students with practical skills directly applicable to their future careers. Students will complete a specified number of hours of training, during which they will learn various skin care treatments, including chemical peels, makeup techniques, and customer service skills.

FAQs: Are online esthetician courses available?
Can I get an esthetician license online in Washington state?
In Washington state, you can’t obtain an esthetician license solely through an online school. While esthetician schools may offer online classes as part of their education courses, the state’s licensing requirements require a certain amount of hands-on training for which students must be on campus.
An esthetician program must include practical, in-person training to ensure students gain the necessary communication and consulting skills and experience to provide professional services.
Online classes can supplement the learning experience but can’t replace the in-person training needed to meet Washington’s licensing requirements for estheticians.
How much do esthetics programs cost in Washington state?
An esthetician program can range from $12,000 to $15,000, depending on the school. These costs do not include book, application and other applicable fees.
How many hours of an esthetics program can you take online?
Each state’s rules vary. In Washington state, you must meet the 750-hour requirement to complete the program. Some schools may allow up to 500 online course hours out of the 750 hours required in Washington state for an esthetician program.
Do you offer a full online program for someone interested in becoming an esthetician?
Im wondering too if its possible to do a complete esthetician course online.
Not 100% online, no. There are some courses that must be hands on.

Hello Nancy, although we would love to have you as a student, it’s best to find a school in California. That way you can meet the qualification for your state, get licensed and work 🙂

Please respond. I am really only interested in skin care etc. No hair nails etc

Are credits transferable. My city is not offering online esthetician classes and I am aware at one point I’ll need to do hands on but in the mean time can I take online courses?
Brenda, typically online credits are not transferable, however you will need to contact the individual schools (and state regulators) to see what the specific requirements are.
Hello is there a esthetician program strictly online ?
Desiree, I don’t know of any that are 100% online. There are some that are hybrid, meaning they offer both online and in person training. During this COVID-19 Emergency, a number of schools are approved to offer the online training ‘temporarily’. If you are interested, you should contact some schools. I know that Evergreen Beauty College can help you.
Is the online program yet available in Washington State?
Cynelle, during the COVID-19 Emergency, many of the schools have offered a temporary option for Distance Education / Online Education. If you are interested, I would recommend reaching out now.

Is there a license pertaining to facials only? I don’t need the manicure/pedicure
Laura, I would suggest that you reach out to your state regulatory agency for clarification. Licenses vary from state to state.
I currently have decided to switch my career to a passion I have had, which is skin care. I have a 4 year degree in another field. How long does it take to complete an Esthetician licence?
Amber, great question. It depends on the state. In Washington State, there are two pathways. One is 750 hours and the second is 1200 hours. Depending on how many hours you attend, it could take you anywhere from 5 months to about a year to complete your training.

Hello I’m from Jackson Mississippi and I’m interested in your program do you know if it would be acceptable from my state in order to become licensed?
Hello Jasmine, the best thing to do is reach out to your state regulatory agency in Mississippi. Here is the link: msbc.ms.gov/
Hello… Can you please tell me if I would be able to get a certificate from you that would be valid in the state of Texas? I am on disability, and would like to do something part time to supplement my income.. I am only interested in doing acne treatments, such as knowing the differences between the types of acne, the best treatments, and be able to pop pimples. I already do this for friends and family, and they are very happy with the end results. Occasionally, I also do hand massages and foot soak/exfoliate/messages, as well. I do not want to work on things like cysts, etc., that requires cutting and suturing. Those types of things would be referred to a specialist or doctor. Do you have anything in your black bag that will help me Mr. Wizard (Of Oz)?
Hello Nancy, I would recommend that you reach out to school in Texas. The licenses are based on individual states, so it’s best go to a school that is within your area. Good luck!
Hello, I live in Georgia can I take this class on work in my state?
Cassandra, licenses are regulated on a state level. It would be best for you to take a class from a licensed school in your state! Good luck!
Do your credits transfer over to Illinois?
Jen, that is a great question. You would need to reach out to schools in Illinois. If you resided in Washington State, our regulatory agency would not allow transfer credits to recognized out of state towards standard licensing.
Does your Aesthetics course certify Wisconsin residents?
Monet, there are a number of great schools in Wisconsin. Where do you live?
Milwaukee
Hello,
Do the school accept transfer hours. I have 176 hours left on a 600 hour course but can’t not continue due to hours. I have completed all my hands on and just have to finish my final midterm & prepare for boards.
Schools typically recognize transfer hours, but each school is different how they process it. Some schools have caps on the hours they will accept, while other don’t. There is typically a transfer process stated in a schools a catalog that outlines the steps. Good luck!

In Washington, there are options to do a hybrid education experience (online/onsite). If you would like to learn more, visit: https://www.evergreenbeauty.edu

It really depends on which state. I believe most state that have a Distance Education option still require onsite training. Plus, the licenses are state specific.

Hi im looking to do what I can online (gas and housing makes communing impossible where I live) I’m based in california, is it possible to become certified as an esthetician in california doing as much on line as possible and then doing of course what I have to in person???? Does this program offer financial aid!? TIA!!!!!
Because an Esthetician license is regulated on the state level, it would be best to reach out to a local beauty school, or multiple schools, to see what solutions you have in your area. Most likely, receiving out of state training won’t be accepted by your regulatory agency, as it is out of their jurisdiction.
What if I can’t go in, and can only do online courses because I am a full time worker, care for my 3 nieces, and live hours away, but still in Washington state? I’ve been trying really hard to get back into school to provide better for those I care for, but seems impossible when not everything is online, which is all I can do.
Hillary, unfortunately at this time Washington State only allows up to a maximum of 50% of the hour requirements to be done online. It may be best to reach out the Department of Licensing to see any other options around that: http://www.dol.wa.gov
I’m interested but I live here in Japan.
hello. 19 year old college student here. thinking of dropping out to follow my initial plans of making people feel great about themselves, i.e beauty school. can someone give me advice or recommendations on schools?
