Learn if Esthetician Online Courses Work for You
If you’re interested in enrolling in an esthetician program, there are many points to consider. Naturally, you’ll question if an esthetics program is right for you. Taking a tour of the campus and meeting the faculty and students will give you a real sense of whether your chosen program is a good fit. One of the main concerns for many future students is whether they will have the flexibility in their work and life schedules to take classes on campus.
If you cannot attend campus classes, we offer online classes for some of the coursework. However, students are required to participate in hands-on training for the real-world portion of the coursework. Here are the steps you’ll need to take if you want to become an esthetician by taking online courses.
Confirm Your Esthetician State Board Requirements Accepts Online Hours
The first step is ensuring online education is acceptable in your state. Different states have different requirements for licensing, and you may need a certain number of on-site hours. In many cases, you can do much of your studying and written coursework for your esthetics education online.
Meet the Prerequisites
Students must meet course prerequisites before enrolling. In most esthetics courses, the only requirements are that you need to have a GED or high school diploma, and be at least 16 or 18, depending on the state. Make sure you talk to the beauty school you’re interested in to learn what courses are best for you.
Enrolling in an Esthetician Program
Once you’ve decided on a career that works for you, it’s time to enroll. You may want to schedule a tour with the esthetics school you’re thinking about attending so you can learn more about how the process will work before you enroll. Then you can enroll and prepare for the start of the upcoming semester.
Get Hands-on Training with Real Clients
While online courses are an exceptionally beneficial tool for offering students convenience and flexibility and help students gain and retain each phase of their studies, hands-on practice with clients is essential.
Depending on the state and the program, you will have different requirements necessary for your on-site training. Make sure you talk to the school you’re interested in attending so you can understand exactly what is expected of you. Additionally, you’ll want to find out if you’ll be online-only for certain periods of time and in person for other periods, or whether you’ll go in for a few hours every week.

Not 100% online, no. There are some courses that must be hands on.

Hey. Me too. Do you have any recommendations?
Once attending the school would I graduate with a associate degree in beauty? How long is the program?

i AM LOOKING LICENSING
Hello, I live in California. Can I still do your online class for skin care??
Hello Nancy, although we would love to have you as a student, it’s best to find a school in California. That way you can meet the qualification for your state, get licensed and work 🙂
I live in Nebraska. Would your program allow and prepare me for the NE license exam?
Hello Christine, unfortunately no. Our program will prepare students for the Washington State exam. There are some great schools in Nebraska and visiting some of those schools will help you find the right fit. Good luck! It’s an awesome industry!
Hi frank I would like to apply for online program I am from Egypt is it possible
Mariam, at this time, we do not have a program that is 100% online.
I’m licensed in Virginia and Maryland as a cosmetologist. Will I have to take the entire course since I’m already a licensed cosmetologist?
Leah, are you looking to be licensed in Washington State as well?
Hi i am from sierra leone will I be able to take the class
No you will not have an associates degree! You will get a ‘certificate’ that allows you to be certified to perform skin care in your particular state.
Is there an online estatician program
Please respond. I am really only interested in skin care etc. No hair nails etc
Chris, are you looking for strictly a ‘online program’? With the current COVID-19 Emergency, we are offering some of our programs temporary via distance education during this limited period, but it would convert to in class training after the emergency is lifted.. If you would like to find out more, please visit our website at https://www.evergreenbeauty.edu or reply back with you email or phone number, and I can have one our admission counselors reach out to you.
Are credits transferable. My city is not offering online esthetician classes and I am aware at one point I’ll need to do hands on but in the mean time can I take online courses?
Brenda, typically online credits are not transferable, however you will need to contact the individual schools (and state regulators) to see what the specific requirements are.
Hello is there a esthetician program strictly online ?
Desiree, I don’t know of any that are 100% online. There are some that are hybrid, meaning they offer both online and in person training. During this COVID-19 Emergency, a number of schools are approved to offer the online training ‘temporarily’. If you are interested, you should contact some schools. I know that Evergreen Beauty College can help you.
Is the online program yet available in Washington State?
Cynelle, during the COVID-19 Emergency, many of the schools have offered a temporary option for Distance Education / Online Education. If you are interested, I would recommend reaching out now.
re I can’t do all that’s needed to be a nice addition online but I’d like to do every single thing that I possibly can online and I hope that you can help me achieve that goal
How will I get the handson for the skin care /esthetician course?
How much is the course?
Looking to do the aesthetics on line , would like to do to get license . I have an internship that is waiting for me
That is fantastic! Mayra, what state do you reside in? Does it allow for distance education?
Is there a license pertaining to facials only? I don’t need the manicure/pedicure
Laura, I would suggest that you reach out to your state regulatory agency for clarification. Licenses vary from state to state.
I currently have decided to switch my career to a passion I have had, which is skin care. I have a 4 year degree in another field. How long does it take to complete an Esthetician licence?
Amber, great question. It depends on the state. In Washington State, there are two pathways. One is 750 hours and the second is 1200 hours. Depending on how many hours you attend, it could take you anywhere from 5 months to about a year to complete your training.
I’m looking for online aesthetics. With Covid impacting how we live our lives these days. is it possible to obtain online aesthetics education and training that would prepare me for state testing/licensing?
Hello, currently looking into becoming a licensed Esthetician. I currently work at a med spa as a licensed laser hair removal technician and currently have many aesthetic certification (microneedling, chemical peel, and microdermabrasion certification). But no license.. so can I do all my hands on at work and classes online. Is this something I can do? State of Texas
Ciera, the best thing to do is to reach out the Texas Board of Cosmetology. Here is the website: tdlr.texas.gov/cosmet/cosmet.htm
Will I be certified in my state ?
Ariel, great question. If you are referring to Evergreen, we are only approved in Washington State.
I am a foreigner from turkey and I have a high school diploma from a foreign school. I am currently 18 and I want to work at a clinic as an estetichian. Can I attain a work visa find a job if I complete this training and get a certificate?
Deniz, that is a great question. Work Visa and student visas are independent applications, and you will want to contact Homeland Securities and/or US Immigration for clarification.
Hello I’m from Jackson Mississippi and I’m interested in your program do you know if it would be acceptable from my state in order to become licensed?
Hello Jasmine, the best thing to do is reach out to your state regulatory agency in Mississippi. Here is the link: msbc.ms.gov/
Hello… Can you please tell me if I would be able to get a certificate from you that would be valid in the state of Texas? I am on disability, and would like to do something part time to supplement my income.. I am only interested in doing acne treatments, such as knowing the differences between the types of acne, the best treatments, and be able to pop pimples. I already do this for friends and family, and they are very happy with the end results. Occasionally, I also do hand massages and foot soak/exfoliate/messages, as well. I do not want to work on things like cysts, etc., that requires cutting and suturing. Those types of things would be referred to a specialist or doctor. Do you have anything in your black bag that will help me Mr. Wizard (Of Oz)?
Hello Nancy, I would recommend that you reach out to school in Texas. The licenses are based on individual states, so it’s best go to a school that is within your area. Good luck!
Hello, I live in Georgia can I take this class on work in my state?
Cassandra, licenses are regulated on a state level. It would be best for you to take a class from a licensed school in your state! Good luck!
Do your credits transfer over to Illinois?
Jen, that is a great question. You would need to reach out to schools in Illinois. If you resided in Washington State, our regulatory agency would not allow transfer credits to recognized out of state towards standard licensing.
Does your Aesthetics course certify Wisconsin residents?
Monet, there are a number of great schools in Wisconsin. Where do you live?
Do the school accept transfer hours. I have 176 hours left on a 600 hour course but can’t not continue due to hours. I have completed all my hands on and just have to finish my final midterm & prepare for boards.
Schools typically recognize transfer hours, but each school is different how they process it. Some schools have caps on the hours they will accept, while other don’t. There is typically a transfer process stated in a schools a catalog that outlines the steps. Good luck!

It really depends on which state. I believe most state that have a Distance Education option still require onsite training. Plus, the licenses are state specific.

Hi im looking to do what I can online (gas and housing makes communing impossible where I live) I’m based in california, is it possible to become certified as an esthetician in california doing as much on line as possible and then doing of course what I have to in person???? Does this program offer financial aid!? TIA!!!!!
Because an Esthetician license is regulated on the state level, it would be best to reach out to a local beauty school, or multiple schools, to see what solutions you have in your area. Most likely, receiving out of state training won’t be accepted by your regulatory agency, as it is out of their jurisdiction.
What if I can’t go in, and can only do online courses because I am a full time worker, care for my 3 nieces, and live hours away, but still in Washington state? I’ve been trying really hard to get back into school to provide better for those I care for, but seems impossible when not everything is online, which is all I can do.
Hillary, unfortunately at this time Washington State only allows up to a maximum of 50% of the hour requirements to be done online. It may be best to reach out the Department of Licensing to see any other options around that: http://www.dol.wa.gov
