Learn if Esthetician Online Courses Work for You

esthetician online training

Михаил Решетников – stock.adobe.com

If you’re interested in enrolling in an esthetician program, there are many points to consider. Naturally, you’ll question if an esthetics program is right for you. Taking a tour of the campus and meeting the faculty and students will give you a real sense of whether your chosen program is a good fit. One of the main concerns for many future students is whether they will have the flexibility in their work and life schedules to take classes on campus.

If you cannot attend campus classes, we offer online classes for some of the coursework. However, students are required to participate in hands-on training for the real-world portion of the coursework. Here are the steps you’ll need to take if you want to become an esthetician by taking online courses.

Confirm Your Esthetician State Board Requirements Accepts Online Hours

The first step is ensuring online education is acceptable in your state. Different states have different requirements for licensing, and you may need a certain number of on-site hours. In many cases, you can do much of your studying and written coursework for your esthetics education online.

Meet the Prerequisites

Students must meet course prerequisites before enrolling. In most esthetics courses, the only requirements are that you need to have a GED or high school diploma, and be at least 16 or 18, depending on the state. Make sure you talk to the beauty school you’re interested in to learn what courses are best for you.

Enrolling in an Esthetician Program

Once you’ve decided on a career that works for you, it’s time to enroll. You may want to schedule a tour with the esthetics school you’re thinking about attending so you can learn more about how the process will work before you enroll. Then you can enroll and prepare for the start of the upcoming semester.

Get Hands-on Training with Real Clients

While online courses are an exceptionally beneficial tool for offering students convenience and flexibility and help students gain and retain each phase of their studies, hands-on practice with clients is essential.

Depending on the state and the program, you will have different requirements necessary for your on-site training. Make sure you talk to the school you’re interested in attending so you can understand exactly what is expected of you. Additionally, you’ll want to find out if you’ll be online-only for certain periods of time and in person for other periods, or whether you’ll go in for a few hours every week.

Desiree, I don’t know of any that are 100% online. There are some that are hybrid, meaning they offer both online and in person training. During this COVID-19 Emergency, a number of schools are approved to offer the online training ‘temporarily’. If you are interested, you should contact some schools. I know that Evergreen Beauty College can help you.

Hello… Can you please tell me if I would be able to get a certificate from you that would be valid in the state of Texas? I am on disability, and would like to do something part time to supplement my income.. I am only interested in doing acne treatments, such as knowing the differences between the types of acne, the best treatments, and be able to pop pimples. I already do this for friends and family, and they are very happy with the end results. Occasionally, I also do hand massages and foot soak/exfoliate/messages, as well. I do not want to work on things like cysts, etc., that requires cutting and suturing. Those types of things would be referred to a specialist or doctor. Do you have anything in your black bag that will help me Mr. Wizard (Of Oz)?

Schools typically recognize transfer hours, but each school is different how they process it. Some schools have caps on the hours they will accept, while other don’t. There is typically a transfer process stated in a schools a catalog that outlines the steps. Good luck!

Because an Esthetician license is regulated on the state level, it would be best to reach out to a local beauty school, or multiple schools, to see what solutions you have in your area. Most likely, receiving out of state training won’t be accepted by your regulatory agency, as it is out of their jurisdiction.

Hillary, unfortunately at this time Washington State only allows up to a maximum of 50% of the hour requirements to be done online. It may be best to reach out the Department of Licensing to see any other options around that: http://www.dol.wa.gov
