Steps To Becoming a Licensed Esthetician Online

getting cosmetology license online

New Africa – stock.adobe.com

If you’re looking to enroll in an esthetician course, there are many considerations you might want to think about. Of course, you need to ensure esthetics is right for you, but one of the things many people have concerns about is being able to attend classes on site. If you’re not able to attend classes on site, can you become an esthetician online? Here are the steps you’ll need to take if you’re trying to become an esthetician by taking online courses.

1. Make Sure Your State Department Accepts Online Education Hours

The first step is to make sure online education is acceptable in your state. Different states have different requirements for licensing, and you may need a certain number of on-site hours or you may need to have your entire education be in person. In many situations, you can do a certain number of your hours online, allowing you to do a lot of your esthetics education online.

2. Meet the Pre-requirements for the Course

It’s also important that you meet any requirements necessary to enroll. In most esthetics courses, the only requirements are that you need to have a GED or high school diploma, and you need to be at least a specific age, typically either 16 or 18. However, for some more advanced courses, you may have needed to have previous training. Make sure you talk to the beauty school you’re interested in to learn what courses are best for you.

3. Enroll in a Particular Esthetician Program

Once you’ve decided on an esthetics course that works for you, it’s time to enroll. You may want to schedule a tour with the esthetics school you’re thinking about attending so you can learn more about how the process will work before you enroll. Then you can enroll and prepare for the start of the upcoming semester.

4. Learn Part of the Process On Site

As a beauty program, you won’t be able to learn everything about esthetics online. Although online esthetician programs will give you a significant amount of your training online, you’ll also need some amount of on-site training. This will help you understand how to do the processes you’re learning about.

Depending on the state and the program, you will have different requirements necessary for your on-site training. Make sure you talk to the school you’re interested in attending so you can understand exactly what you’ll need to go in to learn and what you can learn online. Additionally, you’ll want to find out if you’ll be online-only for certain periods of time and intensively in person for certain periods, or whether you’ll go in for a few hours every week throughout your time.

Become a Licensed Esthetician With Online Courses and Training

It is possible to learn how to become an esthetician with online courses. However, it’s important to remember that you will have to do some of your training in person so you’re ready for clients when you graduate. If you’re interested in becoming an esthetician with online training, consider talking to an expert at Evergreen Beauty College. With the esthetics course at Evergreen Beauty College, you can have only a few hours of in-school training every day. This allows you to prepare for a future as an esthetician in a way that fits your schedule.

Desiree, I don’t know of any that are 100% online. There are some that are hybrid, meaning they offer both online and in person training. During this COVID-19 Emergency, a number of schools are approved to offer the online training ‘temporarily’. If you are interested, you should contact some schools. I know that Evergreen Beauty College can help you.

Hello… Can you please tell me if I would be able to get a certificate from you that would be valid in the state of Texas? I am on disability, and would like to do something part time to supplement my income.. I am only interested in doing acne treatments, such as knowing the differences between the types of acne, the best treatments, and be able to pop pimples. I already do this for friends and family, and they are very happy with the end results. Occasionally, I also do hand massages and foot soak/exfoliate/messages, as well. I do not want to work on things like cysts, etc., that requires cutting and suturing. Those types of things would be referred to a specialist or doctor. Do you have anything in your black bag that will help me Mr. Wizard (Of Oz)?

Schools typically recognize transfer hours, but each school is different how they process it. Some schools have caps on the hours they will accept, while other don’t. There is typically a transfer process stated in a schools a catalog that outlines the steps. Good luck!

Because an Esthetician license is regulated on the state level, it would be best to reach out to a local beauty school, or multiple schools, to see what solutions you have in your area. Most likely, receiving out of state training won’t be accepted by your regulatory agency, as it is out of their jurisdiction.
