Cometology Student Success Story: Tekoah Holland

I’m excited to share the success of one of our Everett future professionals; Ms. Tekoah Holland, as she  was recognized this past month for building her business and the way she is sharing her professional journey with her clients.

 About Tekoah Holland

We asked Ms. Tekoah why she chose to come into the beauty industry and she shares, “I chose this industry, especially cosmetology because I myself used to have low self esteem but whenever I got my hair done I noticed that I had more confidence. I felt beautiful and would always take pictures of myself afterwards. Since that point in time, I knew I wanted to have a part in making other people feel the same way I did! Prior to enrolling into Evergreen Beauty College I worked at Kate Spade buying time until I figured out what I wanted to do with my life. Eventually I applied into a traditional community college but it didn’t take long to realize it wasn’t something I wanted to do. I just wasn’t for me.”

“Evergreen beauty college was the first beauty school I ever looked into once I figured out what it was that I truly wanted to do. When I toured the Everett campus I noticed that the staff were all sweet and kind. It genuinely felt like a true family there and it made me feel comfortable being there which helped a lot in my decision!” shared Tekoah.

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the cosmetology program with us Ms. Tekoah has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other cosmetologist:

“In school we have had assignments that have been the most helpful, like Bingos, which is an assignment that has different services to complete. It definitely gives us the opportunity to practice different skills that we may or may not take the time in. Or it can help you get faster at what you already know and do. Our business program; NaB, has been pretty helpful with the marketing side. I’m a marketing nerd and I love to retail so it has pushed me a little out of my comfort zone. As for areas I have liked most? I would have to say I love haircutting, color and updo’s because everyone has there own techniques and those different techniques can make a huge difference in someone’s transformation. It allows me to get creative like an actual artist,” stated Tekoah.

“I believe my strength is listening. I listen to what my client actually wants and what they tell me which is one of the things that sets me apart from other stylist. I’m always smiling and getting the job done which make my clients happy. It’s crazy what can happen when you actually listen to the clients needs and wants. As for my specialty? I would by far say hair cutting. I just love the precision and technique that it takes to execute a look. Especially the men’s cuts!”

What sets Tekoah apart you may ask? Well, she connects with her clients and gives them a relaxing environment to come into. “I really haven’t done anything too different, but I do have a lot of people that leave happy enough to rebook with me. I make sure that my clients leave happy by keeping it all about them. It’s simple really!” expressed Tekoah.

The Next Step

“As I am about to finish here, I leave some advice to those that’ll follow in the halls of EBC, take your time and appreciate the clients you get. You may not like a specific type of service you get but it’ll be the best experience you receive in one way or another. Also, don’t forget the before and after pics!!” offered Tekoah.

With many options Tekoah is looking into, let see what her plans are for after she passes boards, “I want to start out booth renting in the Everett or Stanwood area. I also have an aunt that works with Hair Masters, so that avenue may be an option as well. Ultimately I would love to look into starting my own salon down the line. We’ll just have to wait and see, haha.” says Tekoah.

Ms. Tekoah graduates this month, December 2018 and what better way to support her and the short time she has left other than to stop in and see her at our Everett campus!
