Cosmetology Student Success Story: Bethany Linsley

Our Everett campus was thrilled when they recognized Ms. Bethany Linsley for going above and beyond this past month on marketing herself. Bethany exudes what Evergreen’s culture is all about and it was in all due time that she was awarded our digital marketing award as well. I am excited to share her story so far!

 About Bethany Linsley

“I have always had a passion for hair and people for as long as I can remember. I grew up being the one that all the girls in my school went to. Being stuck in the school bathroom or choir room for hours upon end doing one girls hair after another. I even started cutting my families hair around the age of 12. As for what I was doing before enrolling at EBC, I was a fulltime property manager for All Seasons Storage and a part time Manager for Lake Stevens Storage & U-haul. My husband, of 6 years, and I live on the Lake Stevens Storage property during that time. I have stepped back to part time management while I go through school. I have two part time jobs. Prior to Property Management I worked at and managed a medical office in Arlington,” shared Bethany. Experience with customers in a broad aspect will only help Bethany as she embarks on the next year of cosmetology school.  Why Evergreen you may have asked though, Bethany gives her reason, “I was drawn to it’s busy, yet professional and friendly atmosphere. The owners are hands on and it shows through the staff and students. I love seeing their involvement into the community around them and their efforts to give back,” states Bethany.

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the cosmetology program with us Ms. Bethany has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other cosmetologist:

“So far what I enjoy the most in my schooling is having the opportunity to work on real live clients versus just our mannequins. By getting to take walk in clients or request clients is the best way to learn and practice our skills. Having an educator available to come and guide us through a service with our clients is exactly what I need to learn and thrive in this industry. I value any feedback and am earnest to grow and perfect my skills from it. I have also enjoyed all of my assignments, even though some have been hard or tedious they’ve helped to solidify the fundamentals of cosmetology,” shares Bethany.

“As for my strengths I would say me being able to connect on a personal level with my clients is a huge one. I love chatting with them and getting to know THEM. I love being able to lift someone’s spirits by giving them a fresh new cut, color or treatment. I love Men’s cuts and find them to be easy and very rewarding but I truly love everything about hair and want to be well trained and comfortable in all of it before I graduate,” Bethany adds in.

“I believe my strengths are partly what would set me apart from other stylist. I am caring and genuine and if I don’t know how to give them what they ask for I will ask for guidance or refer them to someone that can. I listen and reflect their wishes back to them in order to achieve a fantastice cut, color or style. My clients experience will be worth their time and money. I care genuinely for all my clients and strive to give them what they ask for and much more,” explains Bethany.

The Next Step

“After graduation I want to get immersed into the industry as much as possible. I want to really hone in on my skills and to just get comfortable with aspects and skills of the cosmetology industry. I would love to get hired on and working with a salon team that has a great atmosphere and vibe. As well as to continue my education and be phenomenal at being a hair stylist,” Bethany shared.

We asked Ms. Bethany what would be some words of advice for any students looking to follow their passion like Bethany once had and her response was, “Leave your personal problems at door each day. To really focus and give 100% to each day that you are there. Figure out what it is that is your drive and reason for being in this program and don’t lose sight of it. Make every day count! It’ll go by faster than you know.”

Ms. Bethany graduates next July 2019 and what better way to support her dream other than to stop in and get a service with her at our Everett campus!
