Cosmetology Student Success Story: Beverleigh Peterson

Our Yakima location is excited to award one of their future professionals, Ms. Beverleigh Peterson,  in the cosmetology program for making some successful foot prints so far as she begins her journey in the industry. Learning the tips and tricks of the beauty business and how to connect with her current and future clientele has sure paid off so far. Beverleigh is amongst the small group of students at our Yakima location that have been recognized for utilizing the digital tools learned in school to grow their business and I’m excited to share her story with you.

About Beverleigh Peterson

Looking into change, Ms. Beverleigh shared why she looked into the beauty industry for it, “I’ve recently worked for the local post office but was still wanting more out of life, something different. Cosmetology, now that’s different and something I felt I could do. I’ve always liked making people feel better about themselves, and that’s what this industry is all about. So why not? Once I started looking into schools, I came across Evergreen Beauty College, I had heard good things about the school so I figured I would go take a look. When I toured the facility and met the staff I knew it was the place for me. ” stated Beverleigh.

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the cosmetology program with us Ms. Beverleigh has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed so far within her program, what has helped her as far as learning the different material and practical skills and what may set her apart from other cosmetologist:

“One area I have fallen’ in love with is doing haircuts, any kind! There is just something about it, I can sit there and do them all day long. I feel like cutting would be a strength and specialty I can offer my clients because of this. I even find myself not minding wrapping perms or doing relaxer services as well. You may find some cosmetologist that don’t like doing the tedious task of perms or the stronger smell that comes with them… as for me though, it doesn’t bother me. Overall, I have greatly improved on my chemical services since the beginning of my program. Since I am that hands on person, I have found I like any assignments we do that involve us working on a mannequin or client because it is where I learn best from. I like being able to watch a technique being demoed and turning around with the opportunity to give it as try as well.”

“As for what set me apart for other cosmetologist and why an individual would call and request me? Well, I am determined to keep refining my skills and to complete my credits. I’m dedicated to this new career path I’ve chosen and have my mind set on graduating on time. I feel because of this dedication I have to myself that it will exude over into the treatments I offer my clients. Being able to keep learning while building those relationships is an important aspect in this field. I also have a very good ear for listening and find that I like to listen to people talk. I’m not much of a talker myself but I think that’s okay considering we’re in this profession that is more client focused. Regardless, I can offer sound advice when needed which makes me a little more unique that way.”

The Next Step

As Ms. Beverleigh is finishing the last months of her program with us, we asked what her advice would be for any students looking to change career paths and join the beauty industry, her response, “Keep busy and always be doing something, even in the downtime. Whether it’s working on your bingo sheets, credits, or staying on top of bookwork. You will thank yourself in the long run,” shared beverleigh.

“Since my graduation will be here before I know it, I already have a plan, I want to work in a salon closer to home to gain experience. As for a long term goal, I want to go more mobile and work my way into doing in-home services for people who have a difficulty or inability to leave their owns homes to get treatments done,” Beverleigh shares.

Ms. Beverleigh graduates this coming May 2019 and what better way to support her and the time she has left other than to stop in and see her at our Yakima campus!
