Cosmetology Student Success Story: Cynthia D’Vicente

Starting her career off in the right direction, Ms. Cynthia D’Vicente is our student success story for our Renton campus this month!  December was a busy and fun month for her by the looks of her Instagram account @haircanvas.by.cyn and super exciting to see. I enjoyed seeing all her styles and blowouts as they came across her feeds! I can’t even imagine getting all that detail into them as Cynthia has captured. It was truly exciting to see her growth on different social media platforms as she has been perfecting her craft. Let’s take a look at Cynthia’s journey and future plans.

About Cynthia

Typically when we interview prospective students as they come in to tour Evergreen’s facilities we hear about their past dreams or calling for this industry. Whether they have grown up in the beauty industry alongside family, or individuals encountering personal challenges that have pushed them to seek answers that may lay beneath what we have to offer in this realm of beauty. I always ask, what draws you to the industry that leads them to walk through Evergreen’s doors. It was no different for Ms. Cynthia D’Vicente, “Before enrolling I worked as a receptionist.” No stranger to the customer service aspect in life, it only made sense when she transitioned to the beauty industry. “I chose cosmetology / esthetics school because it was always a hobby and passion of mine. I like to make people look good and feel happy.” Cynthia is defiantly in the right career for that! I love scrolling her Instagram seeing her passion in the work she does, and the lives she’s already touched in the time she has been at Evergreen. “I wanted to attend E.B.C. because of all the many different programs the school has to offer. Class schedules are great and E.B.C. is the highest rated beauty school in Seattle.”

The Evergreen Experience

With different aspects of beauty school it is always fun to hear what the future professionals favorite part is. Cynthia says “What I like about the program is the opportunity to work with and on real people. I also like being able to work and learn about the different areas in the industry besides what my main focus is.” Interaction with the public is essential to success in the industry so it was exciting to hear it was something Cynthia looks forward to in school. Staff encourage students to work outside their comfort zones, “The assignments I enjoy doing the most are the bingo cards. It helps me challenge and improve myself in all aspects of the industry.” Utilizing a ‘Bingo’ sheet helps develop skills that may sometimes be a less chosen technique or services and works on refining all skills. Refined skill is what Cynthia has learned and has achieved!

Every future professional has different qualities that sets them apart from each other, and clients seek out certain qualities that they can connect with. Something that sets Cynthia apart is,  “I believe creativity is not a competition but being able to have an artistic dexterity is a blessing.” That artistic dexterity will keep Cynthia skilled in the trends clients will look for. “Clients should book with me because I have confidence in what I do and love the returning of satisfied customers. I like to think I’m making the world a happier place one hair do at a time[,]” and that she is. It’s crazy what an amazing haircut or style will do to ones confidence.  I’m sure Cynthia’s clients leave her chair with their own bout of confidence after she has created her artwork!

The Next Step

“After graduating the program , I want to continue my learning at a salon and eventually get into the I.T. (Instructor Training) program. A big goal of mine is to eventually open up my own salon,” says Cynthia. I love hearing this from Evergreen’s future professionals because it leaves me knowing we have amazing talent and mindsets making a quake and difference in this industry! An industry that can be over looked will have to watch out as more graduates like Cynthia head into it.

Any words of advice for those that will follow into the industry? “I would advise incoming students to utilize the time you get in school. Stay focused and practice on what you need to improve on and just have fun!”

Cynthia graduates this July, 2018 and what better way to support her and her artistic skill other than to come and get a service done by her at our Renton campus! Congratulations Cynthia, you are on your way to do some amazing things in this industry!
