Cosmetology Student Success Story: Kaylin Hardwick

For the month of August we are proud to share the success of one of our North Seattle campus’ future professionals, Ms. Kaylin Hardwick. Kaylin was awarded for the strong foundations she is building to market herself, and cultivate an online presence that she will continue to grow throughout her career.

 About Kaylin

It has been quite the journey for Ms. Kaylin prior to pursuing her passion’s within the beauty industry, she shares  “Straight out of high school, I went to Edmonds Community College.  I originally wanted to do nursing, then realized that science was not my forte. I then went on to get a degree in arts!  While in my second year, I applied for the Disney College Program and moved to Orlando to work at Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, this made my two year degree, more like a four year degree.

I then moved to Wisconsin after Disney, and started a bachelors in Social Work. I always thought I wanted to do social work, with a main focus of working with Child Protective Services. However, I soon realized this was not the right path for me either. This is what everyone around me was expecting me to do, but I realized I needed to find a path that would make me truly happy. I am extremely creative, and have always had a love for beauty. I moved back to Washington and took a year to really sit down and think about what I am meant to do which lead me looking into the beauty field.”

When it came time to choose a beauty school Ms. Kaylin toured many different schools, but at Evergreen, “I felt like I was in one big family when I walked in, I fell in love with it right away!” She has benefited from the smaller class sizes, which has given her more one on one time with her instructors. “It has been such a blessing to be able to finally feel comfortable in a future career.

The Evergreen Experience

Since beginning with Evergreen Ms. Kaylin has really enjoyed color services, and men’s design. “Many people seem to be terrified of men’s cuts, but the more practice you get, the more comfortable you will feel,” Kaylin shares. When asked of her strengths and where her specialties lie thus far she stated ” I would say styling and coloring are my strengths in the program. I love to style at the end of a service, if you’re looking for a good curl service, or amazing texture, come see me! I have only been here a little over two months, so I am looking forward to learning much more out of the time I have left in school.”

“My main goal is to empower people’s inner and outer beauty.” Ms. Kaylin feels that this is the trait that sets her apart from other stylists.  “I believe that many people come into a salon wanting to look “better” than they do. However, they already look amazing. It’s important for them to know that, then just add a little bump to their self esteem. I also aim to not only be a stylist, but to be a friend. I want my guests to feel comfortable as ever and know that they are in good hands.”

As to what elevates her, and would be the reason to book with her over other’s “I never want to say that I am better than anyone. I one hundred percent believe that everyone has their own talents and is incredible. However, if I was wanting you to book with me, I would make sure you know that I am not just a stylist. I am going to be there to guide you into making you hair dreams come true, and just overall be a great friend for you,” Kaylin adds.

The Next Step

When looking into her bright future and the next move after she is licensed Ms. Kaylin plans on working in a salon, and eventually growing into her own salon suite. After she has completed her program Ms. Kaylin would like to specialize in blonde services and men’s cuts. She also has aspirations to get a certification in lash extensions.

When asked what advice she has for new students, or those interested in beginning their own cosmetology journey Ms. Kaylin suggests taking the time to research before moving forward with the program. “I would also recommend talking with other students before starting and see how their experience has been.  Many people think it is an easy way out, but it is actually very technical.  It is one of the best things I have ever done, and I highly recommend the program here at Evergreen Beauty College!” offered Kaylin.

Ms. Kaylin Hardwick is set to graduate late next Summer 2020.
