Cosmetology Student Success Story: Chris Davis

Sometimes when you have an idea of what you want, life has a different plan for you. That is what happened to our Digital Marketing Award winner for the month of July, Chris Davis, from our Bellevue Campus. Life pointed him in the direction of Cosmetology and he is now halfway through the program and is projected to graduate in March of 2018. I always love hearing people’s stories of why they decided to do what they have chosen and how they got where they are. Chris was no different. I was so excited to hear his journey!

About Chris

Before coming to Evergreen, Chris lived over in Spokane and was working at Macy’s and Dairy Queen, while also doing odd jobs such as lawn mowing and tree removal. He then decided that he wanted to become a barber. He originally planned on going to Barbering school exclusively, but then moved over to the West Side from Spokane. While he did some research on Beauty Colleges, he came across Evergreen and decided that that is where he needed to be. He discovered that we no longer offered a Barbering Program, but a Cosmetology Program and then decided to dive head first into the wonderful world of Cosmetology. Why not become a double threat and offer both men’s and women’s services, right?

When asked what skills he has developed and what strengths he has discovered since being in school, here is what he had to say, “Being able to adapt under any circumstance with any guest and being able to perform and give my best effort day in and day out. I try to specialize in every aspect of my craft. Learning never stops, there is always room for improvement.” That’s great, Chris!

The Evergreen Experience

There are so many different reasons why our Future Professionals have chosen Evergreen for their education and I am always so excited to hear each and every one of them. For Chris, it was not only the commuting convenience, but it was also the welcoming atmosphere. From day one he said that it’s felt like it’s exactly where he’s supposed to be and it has been great ever since. That is so awesome to hear! Thank you Chris!

So many of our Future Professionals want to open and own their own salons/spas. It is wonderful to see them so goal-driven! Chris has that same drive and ambition. One of the assignments that has helped him while in school has been having to create their own salon or spa. Chris said, “I aspire to open up my very own salon someday so it was really good to start brainstorming and figuring out what it takes to build and run a salon business.”

One of Chris’ favorite things he’s done while at Evergreen has been taking clients on the floor. The real-life experience is very beneficial to the students and teaches them a lot about what to expect in the “real world.” I asked Chris why clients should book with him and he said, “I can guarantee you will feel and look better than when you first sat in my chair.” That is one of the best things about the beauty industry, the ability to make people’s days better by just simply doing their hair, performing an Esthetics service, or doing a complete transformation. It’s an incredible feeling.

The Next Step

As Chris keeps progressing through his program and starts making plans for the future, I had to know what his plans after Evergreen were. He said he would love to open his own shops and not only create his own product line, but equipment as well. “I want to be great. I want to be a legend.” With that positivity, drive and attitude, I have no doubt that he will do wonderful things in the future. We can’t wait to watch him flourish and a stylist and entrepreneur.

As our Future Professionals progress and develop their craft, we are always curious to see what nuggets of wisdom they may have for incoming Future Professionals. Just little tips or advice they have received or experienced during their program. When I asked Chris if he had any advice for incoming students, he said, “The passion and fire in your heart may it burn strong and long because things will try to diminish your light, but your perception and how you react will dictate what effect it will have in your life. Dream big, work hard and never stop being great. We all have it in us, it’s if we are willing to work for it that makes the difference.” Wow, Chris! That is a strong and accurate statement! If the incoming FPs follow that advice, they will definitely be on the road to success!

If you would like to see and experience Chris’ skills for yourself, you still have about 7 months to do so! Give our Bellevue location a call and get on his schedule! If you would like to see his work and follow him as a stylist, you can check him out on Instagram at x_davis91.
