Esthetics Student Success Story: Cora Speidel
So many people that have a love for the make-up industry, have a love for skin care as well. Make-up and skin care go hand-in-hand because, after all, our skin is the canvas for make-up.
That was definitely the case with Cora Speidel, our Bellevue Campus Digital Marketing Award Winner for the month of April. After receiving her BA Degree for Eastern, Cora decided to take a chance using her artistic skills and dive into the wonderful world of make-up artistry. From there she discovered that she had a passion for skin care as well. Continue reading to discover Cora’s journey at Evergreen and her new-found love for skin care.
About Cora
Everyone in the beauty industry has passion and an eye for detail. Cora, for example, “I really enjoyed heling others with cosmetics, but realized I had a passion for skin care as well. Thanks to my art background, I like to pay attention to every little detail and I have very steady hands. This background translates to esthetics well as you need to focus on those little details and be very precise with your actions.” Now that Cora has completed the majority of the program, I was curious to see what her favorite things about the program were. “I really enjoyed learning about skin care and different skin care treatments. I love being able to take that knowledge and help clients take care of their skin.
I have also found a new passion for applying lash extensions.” That is fantastic! Lash extensions have definitely become a niche in the esthetics industry!
The Evergreen Experience
Some people dream about being in the beauty industry from the time they are children, others take a little longer to discover that the beauty industry is where they are meant to be. For Cora, it was the latter. Before coming to Evergreen, she had completed the Studio Arts program at Eastern Washington University and earned her Bachelors of Arts degree. It was then she decided to use her artistic skills and pursue a career in make-up artistry. 
She then began work at a medical spa and from there, decided to enroll at Evergreen. Why Evergreen? “I chose to go to Evergreen Beauty College because I had heard great reviews about the school. My co-worker had an amazing experience at Evergreen and she recommended that I consider it.” That is wonderful!
At Evergreen, every Future Professional’s experience is unique. Everyone takes away something a little different from the next. “I think working on our clinical trials really helped me learn how to assess skin, come up with a client-specific treatment plan, and recommend helpful products. Overall, I believe that being able to work one on one with various clients throughout the school week is great preparation as I look to start my career as an esthetician.” That is great, Cora! One of our goals for our students is to make every day as realistic as possible and to make them salon/spa ready.
The Next Step
Cora is set to graduate in July of 2017. She’s only got a few short weeks left until she leaves the Evergreen family and spreads her wings in her new career in the Esthetics field! I asked her what she wants to do when she is finished with her program. “I want to further my career in skin care and help people with their skin care needs by providing different treatments. I also want to be a lash technician and help people feel beautiful.” That is one thing that is frequently said in this field. People love the feeling of making others feel more beautiful than they did before they walked into the salon or spa.
Before her time is done, she has a little advice for the incoming students, “Have an open mind. Don’t have your heart set on one particular service because that may prevent you from falling in love with another one.” That is great advice!
