Digital Marketing Award: Jiovanna Liriano
The coveted Digital Marketing Award for this month has been given to one of our talented cosmetology students: Jiovanna Liriano! Congrats, Jiovanna! Our Digital Marketing Award is given to students who go above and beyond in their social promotion, something they learn here at Evergreen as a part of their programs.
About Jiovanna
Jiovanna told us that her passion for cosmetology started at a young age, and it may even be in her genes.
“I decided to finally enroll in cosmetology school after years of thinking about it. My great grandma was a cosmetologist for 70 years and growing up in her salon sparked a love for the art of hair styling inside me. Before attending school I was working a retail job at the mall that was just not for me, so I decided to take the chance!” she said.
Cosmetology is a common family trade. The skill often works its way through several generations. This family aspect adds another special element to Jiovanna’s need to be great at what she does.
While Jiovanna is talented in several ways, we asked her to share her favorite parts of the program so far and what she feels is her strength.
About the program she said, “I love all the different skills we get to learn throughout the program but my favorite would be the haircutting and coloring. I love the creativity and design that are put into a cut and color process. It’s a very rewarding feeling seeing your vision come to life.”
On her strengths she commented, “My biggest strength would be that I am very detail oriented. I put the time and effort in to get the haircut, color, chemical service, manicure, etc. just the way my client wants it.”
Jiovanna is very talented when it comes to working with clients. We asked about her unique approach to working with them, and we also asked her what she thinks sets her apart from other stylists.
“My approach to clients is unique because I feel I really take the time to listen to what they want. I want to find out what you love about your hair and maybe what you don’t like so much and how we can make it better. I want to make sure we are on the same page through the whole service so we can achieve exactly what you want!”
“I feel what sets me apart from other stylists is my dedication to always learning and improving my craft. I have dreamed of being a hairstylist since I was a child and want to be the very best I can be for myself and my clients. I continue to learn about new techniques and products as much as I can and plan to do so throughout my entire career.”
The Evergreen Experience
“I chose to attend Evergreen because as soon as I walked through the doors I felt welcome. The family environment and small class sizes made me feel comfortable and confident that I would get the education I desired in a good place. When I toured and saw how things worked I knew it was the place for me.”
We view our students and staff as one big family. Together, we can help each other progress, learn, and become better people, and that makes us proud.
Getting feedback is very important to us. It is what helps us learn and grow as a school. We asked Jiovanna to share her opinion on what part of the cosmetology programs is most helpful.
“Assignments that allow me to use my hands and really be able to practice how something is done is the most beneficial way I learn. Also the aspect of having to bring models in weekly in Phase 1 helped me in starting to build my clientele which has continued to help me through my journey at school.”
The Next Step
We love to help our pupils set goals. Goal setting and planning helps our student excel in the right direction. We asked Jiovanna what her career goals are.
“After I graduate I would like to work in a salon for at least 5 years+ to really learn how the industry works and help develop my skills even more. My long term goal is to eventually have a salon in my house. I would love to have just a one chair salon to do hair but also be able to be close to and spend time with my family.”
