Digital Marketing Award: Nathan Gonzales

A lot of our students want to make a name for themselves, and the best way to do it is to create your own success. That is something Evergreen students have pride in.

This month’s successful, self-created achiever is Nathan Gonzales. An Evergreen student with drive, passion, and a true love for the art that is cosmetology.

About Nathan

When Nathan decided to enroll in cosmetology school he was working full time as an electronic lead installer at Best Buy. He also worked as a photographer. But in his shoots he wanted more control over how his subjects looked. This lead him to the conclusion that he had to do their hair himself.

“[I] came to realization that as a photographer I wanted more control over my shoots, and I also didn’t want to rely on anyone to get the looks I wanted! So with family in the beauty industry they helped me do some research on school and here we are!” Nathan joked.

Nathan shared his favorite part about cosmetology. “When I started the program I wanted to be a colorist. I figured it was a great way to make a name for myself, but then my uncle said something to me, ” You can make good money from being a good colorist, but you can create a reputation as a Designer.” So hair cutting is my favorite thing to do! It just provides a creative and euphoric outlet for any stress that I have!”

Nathan says his biggest strength is his ability to talk to clients and make them feel comfortable, especially when they are trying something new.

The Evergreen Experience

“All of the assignments have been very helpful in my growth as a future stylist; I have to thank my educators for just pushing to get past any feeling of being uncomfortable with techniques.”
Nathan said.

He talked about the reason he chose to attend Evergreen, “After doing my research, with some help with family, it just felt like Evergreen was the best place for me. It’s not a super corporate school like some, and it’s run by a family that wants to help their students reach their goals. And to me that’s makes a big difference to how the school operates.”

Evergreen strives to make the experience here a unique one.

Nathan talked about how cosmetology school shaped his unique abilities as a stylist, “I think every stylist has something unique to bring to any client that sits in their chair. I just continue to provide excellent service and strive to be the best I can and to make my goals become a solid reality.”

The Next Step

“My goal is to become a Platform Artist for Andis, and then eventually open up a 10 chair salon with some perks!” Nathan remarked.

While Nathan is expected to graduate and get an awesome job in November 2016, he wanted to give some advice to those seeking to become cosmetologists before he goes.

“My advice would be to keep an open mind when learning something that feels uncomfortable because that particular technique may become your most favorite.”
