Cosmetology Student Success Story: Tessa Gagnon
It always amazes me the amount of people outside of Washington state who are interested in attending Evergreen. And this includes people all around the world! It goes to say a lot about the presence that Evergreen has made for itself on a digital level. Bellevue’s Digital Marketing Award winner for the month of September lived out of state and learned a lot about her future school by checking out the remarkable reviews online. About Tessa
Some people’s love for the beauty industry evolves as they get older and others are just born knowing that this is the industry they are meant to be in. For Tessa she knew at a young age that this is something she wanted to pursue! “Growing up I would always read magazines, watch beauty/hair tutorials and always help my girl friends get dolled up for fun. I love making people smile and I find it so gratifying to be able to make someone feel more confident and beautiful. I am from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where I was managing a local coffee shop. Before I enrolled I had recently moved from Idaho to Washington, and I figured a change of scenery was the perfect time to focus on my dreams and future career,” Tessa said. In the short amount of time that Tessa has been attending Evergreen, she already knows what sets her apart from other stylists. “I’m not sure what other stylsts can offer, but based off of my previous experience in customer service, I believe that I can communicate well with a variety of people. I am detail oriented, can adapt to different situations with ease, and I have a strong desire to create an uplifting environment.”
The Evergreen Experience
Tessa has embraced the many tools Evergreen offers their students to make sure they are not only 
successful on the school salon floor, but once they have graduated and are working in a professional salon too. “During Phase 1 we had to have a model come in for different assignments every week. I felt like this was the most helpful to prepare for when I started receiving clients when I got out on the salon floor in Phase 2.” As far as what brought Tessa to Evergreen, “When I researched cosmetology schools in the area I was drawn towards Evergreen Beauty College because of the vast amount of positive reviews it had online, which inspired me to take a tour. When I took my tour I felt so welcomed by the staff and other students that I felt like it was a good fit for me.” That seems to be a trend I have noticied amongst Evergreen graduates and current students. We pride ourselves on the fact that we offer a welcoming environment to everyone who walks in through our doors!
The Next Step
Tessa, who is set to graduate the Cosmetology program October 2018, still has a lot to learn but has already given some thought as to what she wants to do once she is done with school. “I plan on exploring different salons and finding the right fit to work with. Perhaps years down the road I may work towards opening my own salon.” With over 200 salons and spas opened by Evergreen graduates in Washington state, we know that this is a goal you can achieve, Tessa! And as far as any advice that she might have for 
incoming students, “My adivce would be to study hard, don’t let self doubt cross your mind, don’t be afraid to ask questions and to have fun!”
