 About Emma-Mae Stivers

“I chose to go to beauty school because it has always been a passion of mine and I knew I belonged in the beauty industry. My mom and sister are also hair stylists, so I have grown up around the industry my whole life. Making others feel beautiful is something I aspire to do everyday. This industry is perfect for that and doing hair is exactly what I need to be doing. I graduated high school and went straight into the hair design program. I also am a part time figure skating coach,” says Emma-Mae.

We asked Ms. Emma-Mae why she chose the hair design program at Evergreen, her response, “I chose to attend EBC because when I toured the school, I could tell it felt right. The environment was encouraging and uplifting. I felt at home there and I’m so happy I chose EBC!”

The Evergreen Experience

Emma-Mae shared what her favorite things about her program has been so far and she says, “I definitely enjoy coloring the most. I feel as though I understand color theory. Seeing the instant transformation when coloring the hair is so satisfying. Changing someone hair color and being able to give a whole different look to the person plus it’s so fun to watch people fall in love with the way they look!

“As for the most helpful assignments? I felt were the ones I felt the most uncomfortable with. The instructors really push you outside of your comfort zone and sometimes it’s not fun, but it makes such a difference in your skill set.”

Everyone has a specialty and Emma-Mae is no different. “I would say my specialty is balayage. I was booked with back to back balayages almost every day I was in school. I would go home and spend hours watching and learning different balayage techniques. I find so much joy in hair painting. I also did a lot of foiling. I love blonding and foiling because they are so much fun,” comments Emma-Mae.

Being able to connect with her peers and clients has really given Emma-Mae the confidence with anyone that walks in for the 1st time or any repeated guest. “I think what sets me apart and a reason clients should book with me is the fact that I LOVE doing what I do. I have a great passion for doing hair. I love seeing new faces everyday and talking to new people. I am confident in my work and I feel like I can make my clients comfortable in my chair. I am confident in my ability’s and I will do whatever I can to make my client feel beautiful, ” stated Emma-Mae.

The Next Step

With an end goal in mind Emma-Mae just had a few steps to take care of before she was able to transition into the industry. “Since I have finished school and passed both my written and practical and receiving my license, I am working at the Creators Touch Studio. My mom and 2 sisters own the salon and I am so excited to join this family team we’ve got going on! The environment in the salon is so perfect and I fit right in! I love working with my family and learning from each other,” shared Emma-Mae. What an amazing opportunity; being able to work with family in an environment with great culture.

“My advice to student looking into beauty would be to attack every opportunity given. It can be scary learning new things but it’s so worth it to be amazing at what you do. Take time to research and learn new techniques for things you’re passionate about. Study hard and do your very best, because it will pay off. It takes hard work and dedication but it is well worth it in the end. Have fun and enjoy your time. You can change people’s perspective of themselves, so make the most of it,” encouraged Emma-Mae.
