Hair Design Student Success Story: Tara Brunner

I’m excited to share the success of one of our future professionals, Ms. Tara Brunner from our Everett campus as she was awarded this past month for her successful habits in building her business. Congratulations Tara, it’s amazing seeing you in your element.

About Tara Brunner

“Choosing beauty school came about in a unusual way; it was an actual dream that brought me to Evergreen. I woke up from a nap and in my dream I went back to school to finish what I started 15 years ago.

I knew at that moment I needed to be at Evergreen and doing hair. You see, from a young age I had always loved playing with hair and being creative with it. It was just something that was meant to be and out of the other beauty colleges in the area, I chose Evergreen to start this journey because of the programs they offered, the schedule, the culture within the school and the location,” shared Tara.

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the Hair Design program with us Ms. Tara has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other hair designers:

“I love that the Hair Design program here lets me focus on hair only. When I had attended a beauty school in the past my only option was to become a cosmetologist, which focuses on hair, nails and skin. At Evergreen Beauty College, they offer many different programs that fit each individual person. So for me, I can actually focus on what I truly enjoy and that’s hair. Since I enrolled in school I can honestly say my favorite projects have been the hands on real world assignments! For example,  I was able to participate in Evergreen’s Slay the Runway Fashion Show where I had 3 beautiful models dressed as Dia de la Muertos pin ups.

The experience I gained from that one day gave me so much more confidence in my ability to work under a time constraint with high stress and in a fast paced environment.”

“As for my strengths, versatility. I love being versatile in each area of hair design. Braiding, extensions, hair cutting, coloring, and perms are my absolute favorite! When a client sits in my chair and shows me a photo of what they want, my brain instantly starts analyzing how I can re-create that look but also how I will be able to customize it to that individual.”

“You asked, what set me apart from other stylist? It would be that nothing scares me! Whether a person with black box dyed hair comes in and wants to go back to blonde or even someone with short damaged hair that wants a full head of braided extensions sits in my chair, I’m game, nothing phases me. I am confident in my abilities to complete even the hardest of tasks. That’s what sets me apart. Not only do I have complete confidence in any services that come through, I am fun, fast, and friendly as well! I am that individual that will always be honest with my clients and set realistic expectations from the get go. I want everyone to achieve their hair goals even if that means coming back for multiple sessions. It’s what sets my apart from other designers in my field,” states Tara.

The Next Step

We asked Tara what her plans are once she completes her Hair Design program soon and she shared her ultimate goal with us, “I want to open my own business!!!” Tara shared excitedly. Knowing her confidence and work ethic Tara exudes at the campus, we have faith she’ll do just that!

As her program is coming to an end, Tara shares some words of advise to any new students looking to follow their own dreams, “Remember why you started and don’t give up!! Set goals for yourself and never doubt your abilities, you are stronger now than you were yesterday.” Words to live by Tara!

Ms. Tara graduates late this month, February 2019 and what better way to support her in the time she has left while getting some amazing services done with her at our Everett campus!
