The Most Popular Spa Treatments

spa treatmentsIf you want to relax after a long day at work, the best place to do so is in a spa. The specialists in a spa will massage you, do your nails, apply make-up on your face and make you look like a queen. If you have never been to a spa before, you need to know about the most popular spa treatments offered in most spas across the country.

The Most Common Spa Treatments

While there are many specialty spas that offer unique treatments like seaweed wrap, when you go to a spa there are several general face and body treatments that you can expect. The most popular spa treatments are nearly ubiquitous amongst all outlets.

Massage

Without a doubt the most popular spa treatment on the market are massages, a therapy dating back thousands of years and derived from the ancient Greek word “masso”, meaning touch. Massage can be done by amateurs or by licensed therapists but all seek to relax patients by vigorously kneading of the muscles, using pressure and friction to loosen tension and generate blood flow. Massage therapy can include the popular Swedish massage, deep tissue treatments that can alleviate arthritis, sports massage for full-contact recovery, and hot stone massage.

Facials

The skin takes a lot of beating during the course of a day. A facial offers the chance to repair and rejuvenate your skin, cleaning and exfoliating the pores to give you a better complexion and image. A facial begins with a cleansing, using an alcohol swab or sponges or cotton padding to clean away grease.

Sometimes a steam treatment directs a jet of hot wet air towards the face to loosen up the skin and allow for whiteheads and blackheads to be taken out easily. Exfoliation uses a peel or chemical scrub to take away dead skin cells. Finally, a facial mask is applied to return moisture and vitamins to your skin. Like a massage, a facial can be given by a spa worker or by a licensed skin treatment professional.

Spa Treatments: Products used

There are very many products that are used in beauty spas. Each product serves a different purpose. Some of them are manufactured products while others are products that we use on a day to day basis. Listed below are two popular procedures products used during spa treatments.

Salt and Pepper

To exfoliate and strengthen skin all along the body, therapists use a salt glow to increase hydration. Often, salt is combined with oil and a fragrant perfume to invigorate the treatment. Salt glows have the customer sit on a massage table in a humid room while the therapist rubs the mix of salt and oils to the skin. The customer gets both sides of their body rubbed down and then take a shower to wash away the salt. Even when you shower, the oil and fragrance remains to give you soft, glowing, aromatic skin.

Waxing

For those who are willing to sacrifice a bit of pain in order to look better, waxing and hair removal are popular choices at spas. A Brazilian body wax removes as much hair from your body as you desire, whether it is along your legs and chest or along your swimsuit line (for men or women). A Brazilian wax specialist applies the warm wax along the hair growth, puts on a strip, then pulls it off and takes the hair with it. Since the pain factor can be high, a specialist will know how best to apply wax and strip to minimize pain.
