Why You’re Always Learning in the Esthetics Industry

esthetician job opportunities

There’s increasing demand for esthetic services, and with this growth has come a shift in clients’ interests from “feel good” services to “result-oriented” care. As a recent article on Skin Inc explains, the partnership between the medical and esthetic fields brings us new technology and treatment options. This puts pressure on estheticians to know more and ready themselves for the larger market share.

Areas of Specialization

There are so many areas for growth in esthetics. You can always expand your knowledge into a new area or enhance a skill you already have. People are looking for someone with the complete package–do you have the business skills, know the medical terminology, and customer service acumen necessary? Being successful in the esthetics industry isn’t just about facials. If you know your stuff, you may also be ready to move from being a service provider to being an educator.

You also may not be the only one who knows it all. Your clients now have the ability to look things up for themselves with more ease than ever before. DIY tutorials abound online. How will you keep yourself ahead of the curve?

Go Beyond Basic Service

Greet your client with a smile and a handshake, make sure all your admin is in order, keep your clients up-to-date with what you can do for them, and maintain a strong promotional presence—don’t just settle for the clients you already have! If they don’t see you getting better, they may decide to do things themselves. Create a complete treatment experience from the moment the client walks in the door by maintaining a relaxing atmosphere;let them know you are there for them.

Show that you can do more by providing advice on at-home aftercare and maintenance. Your client should feel that they are in the presence of an expert. For this to happen, you need to be that expert. Know your products and services inside and out so you can talk about them confidently.

Be Aware of Current Trends

Skin care is a major part of the industry, as are stress-reduction and personal care. The aging population is also weighing on the healthcare industry; as an esthetician, you can offer anti-aging and relaxation treatments in line with current medical care.
