Admission Requirements for Beauty Schools in Washington
Are you interested in being your own boss and working in a creative and fun career? The beauty industry is an exciting field to work in, and it involves fields such as Cosmetology, Nail Technology, Barbering and Esthetics.
Beauty School Admission Requirements
In order to enter into the beauty industry, enrollment in a beauty school would be the first order of business, and in the Northwest, Evergreen Beauty School offers the best programs for students, focusing on technical and business skills needed by both employers and individuals in case they want to start their own business.
Enrolling In A Beauty School
Whether you need a GED or high school diploma to get into a beauty school really depends on the state you’re in. Each state has its own admission requirements for beauty school; in Illinois, for instance, people get into beauty school without a high school diploma or a GED, provided they pass an additional test. However, generally you need at least a high school diploma to get into most schools. So what are some of the factors to look at?
Assessment Tests
Prior to enrollment, students have to undergo an assessment to gauge if they have the minimum requirements to get into the program. All students need to show competency in writing, and basic computer skills are mandatory for most schools. All students have to attain a minimum score on each field of study in order to get into the program, failure to which they are encouraged to join a preparatory course before enrolling in cosmetology.
Age
In order to be admitted into the program, students have to be at least 16 years old. If the school does not have a minimum age requirement, then younger students are advised to consult with relevant authorities or the state board before enrolling into any program. Age limits are much more accommodating so older folk have more options in the beauty industry.
Can I Enroll In the Program While Still In High School?
Some schools are more progressive than others and may allow high school students to take select classes so they can get a feel of the study, but generally, dual enrollment is rare. A few vocational technology schools exist in different communities, and they encourage students to get a head start on their career.

These programs are great tools for high school students.
Course Outline
In order for students to complete the program, they have to complete a minimum of four semesters and attend at least 90% of the classes. Typically, classes are scheduled five times a week.
Application
Students have to submit an application form along with other relevant documents to the school. The good thing is, most schools do not have stringent requirements so the application process is pretty simple.

hi so my baby girl is 10 about to be 11 can she join your program
Latishia, that is amazing that she already has an interest! Unfortunately, there are a few criterias including HS Diploma or GED, and she’ll need to be at least 17 years old by the time that she test for state boards. We would love to have her in the future!
If someone wanted to take multiple course (IE. Cosmetology and Nail Technology) Would they be allowed to?
Kelsey, it maybe, but it would be very difficult as programs are continuous. The best approach is to reach out to schools in your area to see what options are available.
Hey! I’m 16 years old, Im currently trying to become a lash tech, but apparently I do need a Esthetics or Cosmetology license. I do not have a GED as I plan to continue going to school, but I am very confident that I could pass the assessment test. Could I still enroll in the upcoming year? I plan to go to the nearest school to Kent if I were able to enroll.
If I am not from USA can i join the program?
Luu, you’ll need to find a school that issues I-20 student visas, which allows them to accept students outside the USA.
Do I need a yes or hs diploma to enroll to become an esthetician
Stephanie, it depends on the school and the state. Some schools are accredited post-secondary schools which may require either a HS Diploma, GED or equivalent. If you check with the school you would like to apply to, they should be able to give you guidance.
