Cosmetology Student Success Story: Abryle Lopez

About Abryle Lopez

Some people believe that everything happens for a reason. Being able to pursue your passion and achieve her dreams led her to Ms. Abryle Lopez the beauty industry. “Before I enrolled in school I had just moved to Washington and was in between jobs due to Covid-19. I took it as an opportunity to put down my serving aprons for good and provide for my family in a way that was fulfilling for myself. I had been waiting tables for years. I was finally ready and able to put myself first. I knew taking this step meant time away from my family but, I also knew it was a chance to show my kids that it is never too late to follow your dreams.” Shares Abryle.

Abryle Lopez, a Cosmetology student at our Renton Campus created this beautiful purple balayage for one her classmates.

When we asked Abryle to share why she chose the Cosmetology program, this is what she shared with us. Choosing Cosmetology was an easy decision since it had been a passion of mine for a long time. I remember touching up my mom’s roots and braiding teammates hair as well as my own for softball games. As I got older, I used makeup as a creative outlet during challenging times. Hair, makeup, and even nails became so fun for me before I even realized myself. Abryle explains why she chose to attend Evergreen Beauty College to achieve her career goals. “In my fun new city, I stumbled across a location within a short driving distance from my home. It felt like it was meant to be. It took me time to finally request information but once I did, I was met with so much support and motivation to finally do this.”

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the Cosmetology program with us Abryle has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far, and what sets her apart from other Cosmetologist. “I have really embraced and love my entire school experience, but my favorite services involve hair. I love that they allow us to have creative freedom while teaching us about proper technique. Learning how to effectively get vivid color into the hair as well as different texturizing styles have been very fun to learn and create with.” Explains Abryle.

What a gorgeous outcome for this client. Abryle did an amazing job on this root touch up.

Assignments that involve how to sell your services, as well as presenting them, really make you imagine what you want for your career. When being asked to speak in front of a large group such as my classmates, I used to be nervous. Now I take every opportunity to present myself as a brand.  Braids and color service are more of my specialty. I love a great haircut, but the transformation that happens during these two services makes people’s eyes light up. I love taking the time to braid an intricate design or place colors in a way that they will pop and add dimension. When it comes to Ms. Abryle’s strengths, this is what she shared with us. “I’d say my strength is truly being able to hear and understand what my clients are asking for. With any service this is the key to building trust. I can relate to those that have felt unheard by stylists in the past and because of this I do my best to build a plan with my client that they understand and feel comfortable with.” States Abryle.

The Next Step

A perfectly executed braid design Abryle did for her client.

Once completing the program this December, Abryle explains her plans within the industry and shares advice for incoming students. “After graduation I would love to work in a salon where I can provide a full array of services. Gradually building my way up to opening my own salon and being my own boss. During my time building my clientele I want to network in hopes of booking wedding events and other opportunities to do hair and makeup outside of the salon setting as well. My best advice for incoming students is to stick with it even when it feels hard. There will be days where you won’t want to show up, but always remember why you signed up to begin with and be your own cheerleader. The finish line only gets closer each day you bring your A game.”

Abryle is set to graduate this upcoming December.
