Different Facial Hair Removal Methods: Waxing, Threading, Depilatory Creams, Laser and Electrolysis

facial hair removalUnwanted facial hair can be irritating and embarrassing, but there are plenty of ways to remove it, either temporarily or permanently. If you have decided to remove some or all of your unwanted facial hair, you must take the time to consider all of your options. Each facial hair removal technique has its own set of unique benefits and risks, and different techniques will work better on different areas of your face. Some of the main facial hair removal methods open to you include:

Waxing

Waxing involves applying warm wax to your facial hair and placing fabric strips over the waxed areas. The removal of the strips will tear your unwanted hair from its roots, leaving you with silky, smooth skin. Although waxing is popular, it will only prove effective if you choose the right type of wax for your hair type. Soft wax is easier to use than hard wax. However, it will only remove fine facial hairs. Your face may look slightly blotchy after your waxing session. However, this unwanted side effect will subside quickly. Your hair will start to grow back about two weeks after your initial treatment session, but it may grow back finer than it was before.

Threading

Threading is an ancient method of facial hair removal that originated in the Middle East. It involves the use of a knotted cotton thread, which pulls unwanted facial hairs from their roots when it is run over your skin. Threading is a quick, cheap and effective hair removal method that is suitable for use on even the shortest of facial hairs. However, its effects will only last for around two weeks, after which your hair will start to grow back. When repeated on a regular basis, the process will damage your hair follicles, limiting regrowth.

Depilatory Cream

Depilatory cream contains chemicals that dissolve the keratin in your hair strands. When you apply it to your face and leave it for a few minutes, it will break down the unwanted hair, leaving you with fuzz-free skin. As the cream only targets the hair strands above the surface of your skin, you may experience regrowth in as little as ten days. The chemicals in the cream may also irritate your skin, causing short-lived redness and mild swelling in the areas that you have treated.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal, as its name suggests, uses a laser beam to remove unwanted hair. It heats up the hair follicles beneath your skin’s surface, disabling them to such an extent that they lose their ability to grow new hair strands. After six to eight treatment sessions, laser hair removal will permanently reduce your facial hair – and may even stop it from growing altogether. However, this facial hair removal method will only work if you have dark hair and pale skin.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis uses a tiny needle that slides into your hair follicle until it reaches the cells responsible for hair growth. It provides these cells with a small electric shock, which cuts off their blood supply and causes them to fall out.

Once the hair follicles have died, they will not be able to grow back, meaning that the results will be permanent. While electrolysis is more effective than other forms of facial hair removal, it can be tedious and time consuming. You may also require several treatment sessions to obtain satisfactory results.

By weighing up the pros and cons of each hair removal method, you will be able to choose a technique that not only suits your budget and lifestyle, but also provides you with soft, silky skin.

Waxing can also cause breakouts, especially for those with sensitive skin and those with a history of acne, while threading can be regarded as the more gentle counterpart.
Also, cold facial waxing strips can be used by anyone at home so, that’s a good start for facial waxing.

I recently moved to epilators from shaving, and might I say I am really happy I did that. I will even go to the length of saying that every woman should start using epilators instead of shaving or razors.
