Esthetics Student Success Story: Nicole Garcia

Some people are just born to be in this industry. They feel the part, they look the part and they act the part. Nicole Garcia is one of those people and just happens to be the Digital Marketing Award winner for the Bellevue campus in the month of August! Please take a moment to learn more about Nicole’s journey into the skincare world and what her plans are for after graduation!

About Nicole

Like several of our other DMA winners, Nicole has previous experience in the beauty industry. It seems so fitting that Nicole started her journey by working in a salon and spa. Working the front desk at a salon or spa gets you first-hand experience to what it’s like to be a licensed professional in this wonderful industry. For Nicole, “Ever since I can remember, I have always been in love with beauty, make-up, fashion and anything that was in trend. For quite some time I kept bouncing back from wanting to do hair and wanting to do skin services. The moment I knew I wanted to become a skin therapist was when I was working at a salon and spa. being around all the estheticians and seeing how passionate they were in what they do, was that extra push I needed towards what I really wanted to become. It was a warm feeling I got every time I would check out a guest and hear their sweet comments towards their esthetician. Telling me to pass a message of a simple ‘thank you’ in making them look and feel better about themselves. I knew right then and there that I wanted to be that person. That person who can turn someone’s negative day to a positive and uplifting day with just my touch.”

The Evergreen Experience

We asked Nicole why she personally chose to go to Evergreen. “I’ve always heard amazing things about Evergreen Beauty College. Location was a huge part in why I chose Evergreen. Originally, I was planning to attend the Renton location because it’s closer to where I live. Unfortunately, the Renton location no longer offered the hours a week I was hoping to get. The hours weren’t going to stop me! To this day, I am so thankful to have chosen the Bellevue campus. If not, I would have never been able to meet my awesome classmates: Christina, Ida and Tatyanna, along with my amazing instructors here!”

Part of what sets Evergreen apart from other beauty schools is the hands-on training all of our students are exposed, no matter what program they are enrolled in. One of our number one goals is to make sure our students are salon and spa ready by the time that they graduate.

“I feel like the test outs have been the most helpful during this program. They covered every service from facial waxes, body part waxes, facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, etc. The test outs helped me prepare myself for the next phase and being on the floor and taking real customers. Without the test outs, I feel like I would never know what I can improve on or what to change to help better myself.”

The Next Step

As for the next steps for Nicole? “I am currently working at Gene Juarez Salon and Spa at the Bellevue location as a Spa Host.

My career plan after I graduate the program is to potentially promote from within at the location and train to become a Skin Therapist there at Gene Juarez. I have been so grateful to have this opportunity in becoming a Spa Host and getting my foot in the door sooner. It’s always better to start now than later.”

Nicole is on track to graduate in only a few more months (November to be exact) so don’t wait to book an appointment with her! And as always, if you are interested in seeing the work Nicole has already done in school, feel free to check out her Instagram @nicoleduvanesthetics
