Esthetics Student Success Story: Emily Nino

About Emily Nino

Before enrolling in the Esthetics program at Evergreen Beauty College Emily was unsure of her career path. After graduating high school in the middle of the pandemic, Emily decided to enroll at a local community college, but she quickly learned that traditional schooling was not for her. After realizing this Emily decided to move to Bellingham where she joined the newly opened Evergreen Beauty College Bellingham campus.

Emily chose to go into Esthetics because she had known from a young age that she wanted to do something that allowed her to maintain her independence while having fun. “I love that this industry is women dominated and empowering. I’ve always wanted to help others feel confident and secure in their own skin, and I feel so fortunate to have found such an amazing path!” she states.

Emily decided to join the Evergreen Beauty College family because it is a highly reputable beauty college in the state of Washington. She also mentions that she “personally knows a few professionals who have graduated from different Evergreen Beauty College campuses, and they have had overall success in the industry!”

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting her journey to become an Esthetician here at Evergreen Beauty College, Emily has shared some of her favorite parts of the program. “My favorite part of this program has been facial/body waxing, as well as certain facial services such as microdermabrasion, facial peels, and dermaplaning! All these services are super satisfying to preform and leave my clients looking and feeling beautiful!”

Along with waxing being one of her favorite services, Emily also finds that it is her strengths. She says “I’ve learned how to properly prepare my supplies and work in a timely manner to get my clients in and out as quickly as possible! I’ve also had the chance to work with different types of waxes, and chat with some licensed professional about their preferences and recommendations which has allowed me to broaden my knowledge for future clients”.

Part of being a great Esthetician is knowing how to make a client feel comfortable, especially when it comes to waxing. Emily explains, “I have been told by my clients that I have a comforting energy and I think that’s one of the biggest compliments I’ve received! I understand waxing is a very intimate setting that makes many people naturally uncomfortable. As an Esthetician, and as a client to others, I strongly believe the energy created during an appointment should feel safe, judgment-free, and comfortable. I value the connections made between my clients and I think that it sets me apart from others!”

She also loves all the hands-on training that Evergreen Beauty College has to offer. “Anything hands-on was the most helpful for me personally. Understanding textbook terminology is super important but I tend to find that I retain information much better when I can walk through the movements of ‘real life’ situations.

The Next Step

As Emily’s graduation date approaches, she has already begun to plan out her next steps in the beauty industry. Currently, she works as a receptionist for a local wax studio which allows her to get a foot into the Esthetics industry and get a look into what it looks like to work as a licensed esthetician. “I plan to complete my externship with them, which will allow me to transition nicely as a licensed waxer there as well”.

Emily’s biggest advice to future students is to “show up and to make connections! Attending all your classes, completing assignments on time, and being open to making new friends” She believes all of these factors will help aide in the Evergreen Beauty College experience.

Emily is set to graduate April of 2022. If you are interested in following her throughout the rest of her program, you can check her out on Instagram: @ecnesthetics. Congratulations Emily! Evergreen looks forward to seeing you follow your dreams! We wish you all the success!
