The Worst Beauty Advice in History? Here are the Top 5 Contenders

worst-beauty-advice

Have you ever been the victim of a beauty nightmare, due to bad beauty advice? If so, you most likely understand that it has the potential to be unpleasant, if not dangerous.

The following five examples represent some of the things that are sometimes considered to be no-nos, when it comes to a healthy beauty routine. Whether or not you try them is up to you.

#1 – Apply Moisturizer to Damp Skin

“It makes perfect sense to apply lotion to our bodies while it’s still a little damp and letting it soak in. But applying facial moisturizer while your face is still damp will result in slippery skin with anything you apply on top sliding off,” wrote Lisa Washington at Beauty.allwomenstalk.com.

For best results, wash your face with lukewarm – not hot – water and pat your skin dry with a soft towel.

#2 – Use Lipstick as Eye Shadow

It is possible to use lipstick or lip gloss as an eye shadow replacement. Whether or not it’s a good idea is a matter of opinion. One complaint is the fact that it doesn’t stay in place and smudges quickly.

Some lip products are quite sticky or greasy. However, you can remedy the problem by applying eye shadow primer, prior to applying the lipstick. If you prefer a “glossy” look, this might be something to consider, but only on occasion.

#3 – Use Glue to Get Rid of Blackheads

It sounds simple enough, doesn’t it? Smear glue on your face, let it dry and then peel off the “mask” and the blackheads at the same time. Chances are, the process will work… for the most part.

The problem is that glue isn’t made to use on your skin. It has the potential to cause allergic reactions. A much better alternative is using a product made specifically to pull the dirt and oil out of your pores, without clogging them in the process.

“I can’t, for the life of me, imagine how mankind could engineer a product that actually pulls grit out of human pores without it being extremely damaging to, you know, the other parts,” wrote Ashley Cardiff at TheGloss.com.

#4 – Treat Cracked Skin with Krazy Glue – Krazy Beauty Advice?

Some dermatologists actually recommend using Krazy Glue to treat cracked skin. At the same time they advise you to only use enough to hold the crack together. It’s obviously extremely difficult to remove. This product works because it contains the same active ingredient as many brands of medical adhesives.

#5 – Treat Pimples with Nail Polish Remover

Nail polish remover, which contains several harsh chemicals, is not meant to be used on the skin. Using it to treat pimples is discouraged. Not only does remover dry out your face, it depletes important nutrients, which your skin requires to stay healthy.

Never believe everything you read or hear. Stay away from unreliable beauty advice that is difficult to verify. To be safe, the best thing to do, when it comes to beauty-related issues, is to ask an expert.
