Cosmetology Student Success Story: Alexis Von Ellinghaus
I am excited to share the success of one of our North Seattle’s cosmetology students; Ms. Alexia Von Ellinghaus, who was recognized this July for the amazing work and connection she has brought to her clients.
About Alexis Von Ellinghaus
Being familiar with the salon environment, Alexis was looking for a change from her current work like many others. “One of the main reasons I chose to look into cosmetology was because I wanted to pursue a career that lets me be creative and where I could look forward to having fun everyday. A field that wouldn’t feel like I was going to a job! Previously working alongside cosmetologist in a salon opened my eyes to that personable connection I would get on a daily basis! A connection with people is something I enjoy. So when it came time into looking for schools, I felt welcomed at Evergreen! It just felt right when I first walked in to see the school, very bright, open, clean, and everyone here is so helpful and is like family!” shares Alexis.
The Evergreen Experience
Since starting the cosmetology program with us Ms. Alexis has shared some of her highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far and what sets her apart from other cosmetologist:
“My favorite part of my program so far is color and foils! I love giving a client a whole new transformation and making them feel their best, that makes me feel good knowing I did my best work and they left more confident and happier than they came in to see me! When it comes to theory, every assignment has been tremendously helpful! I can confidently say the curriculum in each chapter is teaching me something that will push me in the right direction of becoming the best professional I can be!” expressed Alexis.
“My strengths so far in school entails color/foils and styling! I like to have a well blended foil for the best coverage and blend! And styling at the end of the service is something I’d recommend because you get the full effect and feel that the look is officially completed when you add a nice curl or a smooth, straightened look!”
“As for what sets me apart from others is that I am me! Hardworking, persistent, unique, silly, kind, I pay attention to the detail and I am a perfectionist so I want to make sure each service I provide is nothing less than something I would want done for myself! I think because I have grown up around the industry with my aunt being a hairstylist, it comes naturally to me! I love hair and everything it encompasses! Currently I work front desk at our family friends salon and I love how I get to connect with others! I love talking and I love being creative! And I feel that listening to what clients want and working hard to achieve their desired look is the most important component in the success of this industry!” Alexis said.
The Next Step
As Alexis wraps up the last months of her cosmetology program, we asked what her plans were for after graduation and boards, her response “I want to continue working where I am now; at my family friends salon, The Vault Hair Lounge, but as a stylist! More of a long term goal though that I have would be to own my own salon someday!”
As potential future professionals look into starting down the path into the industry, Alexis offers advice for those wondering whether to follow their dreams or not. “Just go for it! I was scared at first but if it something you are passionate about and have the drive and persistence, you will make it and you will go far!” What a great piece of advice for anyone that may have those new change jitters!
Ms. Alexis Von Ellinghaus is set to graduate this coming year, 2020.
