Cosmetology Student Success Story: John Tran

About John Tran

Artist is a great way to begin Mr. John Tran’s introduction. In his time at our North Seattle location he has made his mark, from his phase 1 color project where he made a 3D origami rainbow bird, to being recognized as the first ever ‘Business Student Of The Month’ for his campus, to being just a handful of appointments away from going onto our Wall of Fame. The success’s that John has accomplished almost didn’t happen “I initially did not even care for Cosmetology, but during my walk around the school with our Admissions Counselor I really fell in love with the campus itself. Being bummed that they were not offering a barbering program I reluctantly did the Cosmetology course, but for me it was a blessing in disguise. I do not regret that decision what so ever, and don’t think I will ever be step foot into a barbershop for work again,” shared John.

The Evergreen Experience

It’s clear that Mr. John is very ambitious as he is being featured for using his social media platforms as a way to share his work with the world and build his business in doing so.

John has a different way at looking at things; when asked why he opted for EBC his personality really comes out “I chose my specific campus, because I wanted an environment that was very lit up and bright along with the vibe I received when I toured. Everyone even seemed like they were enjoying themselves, and not dreading their schooling,” John explained.

Looking back at the beginnings of his program Mr. John thought for sure he would love hair cutting as it was the original interest for him, but as he puts it “Wrong, I learned to love the art of coloring hair. My clientele being so deep into the program is 95 percent color services at this point.” As mentioned above John has quite the following of loyal clientele who keep him busy. But as we know with practice comes fluency, John shares that the schools hands-on bingo’s are what have been the most helpful tool for him. “It really showed me different things, I would probably never have tried. They’ve pushed me to get out of my comfort zone.”

Its very obvious where John specialties lie, “My strengths would definitely have to be coloring services. Double process’s, balayages, etc.” But he still enjoys men’s design coming from a background of cutting all of his friend’s hair in high school.

A rich vibrant red all over color, with a stunning copper balayage and finished with a soft curl was completed by John.

The Next Step

Mr. John is in the last chapter of his time with Evergreen, and he has no intentions of slowing down his upward path. “For me, having the mindset of being the best possible stylist I can be is a huge factor. I always go 110% on all my projects and always think and recommend what I think would look best for the client. I love the art, I love the before and afters, what I love most though is the fact that I am the one creating it. Most people say they want to be the best but for me personally, I am always working on my craft. Before school, after school, on my days off. I will be learning and educating myself to understand hair to the fullest,” John explained. That drive is why this young stylist will continue to be recognized for as it is truly paying off in his work.

As someone who thrives being challenged, and can act as their own self starter Mr. John’s plan isn’t on the beaten path of many new graduates, and shares “I hope to booth rent from the jump. I do not really plan on going for a commission salon mainly because I want to use my own color lines and learn how to be financially responsible in that aspect. Many say that this is a bad idea from the start but for me, putting myself in a situation that is uncomfortable will only help push me into high accomplishments and that is really important for me.” Impressed yet?

For clients current and future John shares, “Even though I may be uncomfortable at times, I will always put full effort into everything that I’m doing. I love to work on hair and will try to deliver on everything that they ask for.”

For other like-minded creatives who are in the beginning of their journey John’s advice is, “Try to create a short-term goal and a long-term goal for yourself when you enroll. For me, it was to be the on the wall of fame, which I am happy to say I am, and to have a strong clientele in school, to the point that I would be booked over a month out, which I have achieved.” Having those expectations from the very start has paid off, and we couldn’t be more proud!

Mr. John is preparing to graduate early summer. Congratulations to our future professional Mr. John Tran, this is one ground-breaker on the rise. To follow John, and stay current on his work find him on Instagram: @rikatsiu .
