Becoming a Successful Hairstylist May Be Easier Than You Think

Tip 1: Find Your Niche

Take a look at your best work and find consistencies. Do your updos make brides swoon?

Are your color corrections to die for? Find your niche or your speciality and try to find a salon or spa that you fit in with. Another option is to start your own business!

Tip 2: Never Stop Learning

One of the biggest mistakes hairstylists make is that they finish their training, go to work, and never step foot in a classroom again. The problem with this is that you miss out on new techniques and styles. Advanced education can help keep you up to date on what is hot and new in the hair industry.

Tip 3: Work on Your Customer Service

Even if you are the most talented hairstylist in the world, if you do not treat your customers properly, you will not have the success you want. This is why it is important to remember to give the best customer service you can. This starts with the consultation and goes through the entire cut. There are classes you can take to help you with this as well.

Tip 4: Know How to Market Yourself

Even if the salon you are working at markets the business and their stylists, you still need to know how to market yourself. Facebook and Instagram accounts can help you with brand awareness and even, in some cases, help you bring in new business. You may even want to take advantage of different referral programs. Bonus: always keep business cards on you.

When you talk to someone and your profession comes up, give them a business card. Networking is a powerful tool in the business world and even hairstylists can take advantage of this.

Tip 5: Sell Your Products

A great way to instantly look like a seasoned professional is to be able to give your client advice. A great way to give them advice is by telling and showing them the different products you have to help their specific hair issues. It could be anything from a clarifying shampoo to a hair treatment. By offering this to them, they will be more likely to see you again and when you make a sale, that is more profit in your pocket. There are many things you can do to be successful as a hairstylist, you just have to make an effort everyday to improve your business.
