Beauty School Diaries – A Day in the Life of an Esthetics Student – Sophia Yost
One of the requirements to be nominated for the International Business Student of the Year is that the student be has been named one of the 12 Nuts & Bolts Student of the Month; Ms. Sophia Yost (Garcia) was awarded this the two of the three month she entered in the student spa! She beat out not only other students, but also her fellow classmate, last year’s second place International Business Student of the Year, Sarah Burke! For Ms. Garcia to win this, it not only shows her understanding of the NaB Principles, but her complete belief and effective commitment behind it. In the month that she won it, she had 100% Retail to Service and 75% upservice, and nearly perfect attendance at 97%.
When Sophia graduated, I asked her to go out and represent Evergreen well. She took a position as a medical esthetician with a local spa, made a strong impact, thus opening up an opportunity for another one of our graduates. Nuts and Bolts is about giving students the competitive advantage, and Ms. Sophia has used it not only to advance her career but others as well. Her educator, Ms. Beth Shoemaker shares, “Sophia is not only an incredible team member in my class but a true leader; she holds herself to exceptionally high standards, but also inspires other classmates to do the same.”
You will see from her Live Journal submission in the above 5 minute video for the IBSY competition that Sophia is very reflective, thus allowing her to learn from both her successes and mistakes.
