Cosmetology Student Success Story: Anissa Tibbits

About Anissa Tibbits

Ms. Anissa gave this client a beautiful plum red all over color.

When you’re young, you have certain people you look up to; you want to grow up and be just like them. As you grow up though, a lot of people lose interest in what their younger self thought they wanted to do. However, there are those few people that follow their interests from when they were young. Ms. Anissa Tibbits is one of those people. “When I was younger, I always found myself looking up to my stylists and wanting to be just like them. The type of energy salons give off is something I have always loved as well as the atmosphere,” shares Anissa, from our Everett Campus.

“Before deciding to enroll in Evergreen’s Cosmetology program, I originally signed up for college with the goal of being a crime scene technician. After a deep self journey and thinking more about what I truly wanted to do, I knew I had to at least look into the Cosmetology program. So I set up an interview and fell in love instantly,” Anissa continued. As of January 2020, Ms. Anissa started her journey of becoming a future professional Cosmetologist.

The Evergreen Experience

Before she made an interview with Evergreen, Anissa talked with some of her stylist friends about where to go. “When talking with stylists I knew, they all recommended Evergreen Beauty College. Some of them went to a different beauty school but still recommended Evergreen to me, and that spoke volumes to me,” Ms. Anissa adds.

In school, there are so many different techniques, styles, ways for application that the students learn. Anissa shares with us what she loves to do and what she found most helpful for her, “As someone who learns better with their hands, I love all of our assignments where we have to perform the service instead of watching a video or listening to someone explain it. This is not only how I’ve learned from a lot of my mistakes, but it has also helped me find ways to prevent mistakes from happening again.”

When asked about her favorite part of her Cosmetology program, she shares with us, “My favorite part of my program would have to be working with blonde hair. When I have a client that is wanting to go blonde from something completely different or if someone is wanting to have extensions put in, I get so intrigued and excited for how it is going to turn out. With that being said I will share that other color’s or services isn’t much as an interest to me as of now. There’s just something about working with blonde hair and extensions that makes me so happy and excited for my day,” stated Ms. Anissa.

The Next Step

As graduation is approaching for Ms. Anissa, we talk with her about her plans for after school and her future. “Ideally, I’d like to work at Elle Marie. I’ve had a few friends that have gone from school to working with them, and have all had good experiences. They seem to take pride in growing their existing staff and making sure they not only talk the talk, but walk the walk. After that, I would like to open my own studio salon and learn how to run my own business. Once I feel comfortable doing that, I would love to own a place to allow other stylists to rent chairs from me, while still working in my studio,” explains Anissa.

Being in school has taught Ms. Anissa a lot. As we finished up talking with Anissa, she shares some advice she has for future students. “Repetition is the key to success. Doing the same thing over and over may seem a little annoying, but honestly that is just how you get better and learn new ways to get the same outcome. Don’t be afraid to try new and interesting techniques along the way.”

Anissa is estimated to graduate July 2021. If you would like to follow the rest of her beauty school journey you can follow her on Instagram at @cutcolorconquer.
