Cosmetology Student Success Story: Carri Eagleburger

For some, you may find yourself questioning your life’s purpose or which career path you may choose. For others, you just know. That was the case for Ms. Carri. “I chose to enroll in Cosmetology because it is the career I saw myself in since high school. Back in the day I would not only do my own hair, but my first “clients” which back then were my twin sister and best friend. For years they told me I needed to just go and do it, but timing just wasn’t right. Last year on my birthday though, I decided it was time to start the journey. Before I enrolled, I was a barista at Jitterbugs Espresso, and a self-proclaimed photographer and I wanted more for myself and my fur child.” Carri shares.

Finding the right college to start out your career can be just as challenging as making the leap to start. When asked why Ms. Carri chose Evergreen she replied, “I choose Evergreen Beauty College because of the location and all-around great atmosphere compared to other colleges that I researched. My first week of school happened to be the last week of campus learning before Covid-19. It was the craziest feeling of finally getting to start my schooling for my new career and then by the end of the week the heart break of not knowing when we would get to come back. Evergreen offered us Distance Education so that we could stay on track with our education while staying safe at home.”

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the Cosmetology program with us Ms. Carri has shared some of her strengths and highlights of what she has enjoyed, what has helped her so far, and what sets her apart from other cosmetologist:

“My strengths so far in the program are getting clients in to see me for their hair needs and having their trust. I have developed much more confident in myself when cutting hair, with different color services and thermal hair styling. My goal is to have 100 request clients come see me by the end of my program!”

“So far, I have enjoyed being able to do big transformations which really shows my creative side. Taking very dark hair and going much lighter, color corrective services, fun color melts to drastic haircuts! My favorite hair cut so far has been on a dear friend, taking a whole 12 inches off that she was happy to donate. I love how happy my clients are with the transformations and the trust they have with me before and during their services.”

“What I have found that has helped me in school has been my Mannequin work. When there are days I do not have clients it has been nice to practice and stay focused on getting credits while learning new techniques that I may not have tried before. It has also helped me with the timing on my services.”

“Since starting at Evergreen Beauty College I have made life-long friendships with some of the students in the program. Going through Distance Education really made us so close. I think each and every one of them are so gifted and talented and I love how supportive they are. My strong personality and communication skills I believe truly sets me apart to my clients. I am a talker and am easy to talk to as well. I believe that anyone who sits in my chair will feel very comfortable and confident in the service I am providing.

I want to be able to give my client what they want so being able to communicate with a client is very important. I will be honest with them and come up with a game plan on the steps to get there because my clients hair integrity is the most important.”

“I can offer a wide range of services, I’m confident in my men’s and women’s haircuts. I also love bringing out my creative side with hair color services and beautiful thermal finishes.”

The Next Step

Ms. Carri is just over halfway done with her program and already has big plans for her future. “When I graduate from the program, I have already gotten a job lined up in a salon in my area. My plan is to work at the salon and specialize in extensions. I recently received my certification in hand tied hair extensions and cannot wait to really get my name out there. Using my skills and knowledge I have received from instructors, friends, family and from school I think will really help me stand out in my career!” Carri shares.

If you have just enrolled or are looking to start in this industry, this is what Carri can tell you, “My advice I have for incoming students is to get your name out there and get as many clients in as possible. Working on mannequins daily is not very exciting and can be boring. Take the challenge and rock it. It is the best place to learn and grow your clientele and knowledge. I love how creative I can be in this program.”
