Cosmetology Student Success Story: Lyric Smith

Our Renton campus was happy to award Ms. Lyric Smith this past month in our all school assembly for marketing her skills via social media, sharing her journey and connecting with new clients.

About Lyric Smith

Lyric was born 21 yrs ago in Federal Way, WA. She was raised in Portland, OR and came back to WA her junior year of high school. Lyric grew up loving beauty and fashion. “In the 5th grade, I would always play with nails from the dollar store or have my friends come over so I could design their nails. I even had my own pedicure kit” shares Ms. Lyric. This later shifted her interest into makeup and hair. Before starting her journey at Evergreen Beauty College, she was working 2 jobs with no goals, but to make money. Once she decided on this career path, her mom influenced her to do the whole package. She toured a couple of schools, but received great energy once she stepped through our doors here at Evergreen!

The Evergreen Experience

Since starting the Cosmetology program with us, Ms. Lyric has strengthened her thermal styling and hair cutting skills and gets her service done in timely manner. Feeling confident in the services she provides, Ms. Lyric is making her way to success. Ms. Lyric also enjoys any chances she gets to play with fashion color as well as learning the science behind hair coloring, as there’s so much more than meets the eye. “Making people feel transformed like they are a whole new person and leaving a smile on client’s faces is very pleasing, especially when I am able to achieve their hair goals.” shares Ms. Lyric. Having hands on demonstrations, where she is shown step by step helps her better understand a technique. Being able to record or take pictures is also helpful, as she is able to refer back to it for later reflection. One area that sets her apart from other stylist is her energy! She is light, lively and kind hearted, her educator comments. Always being positive and giving 100% to each of her clients comes easy to her. The clients enjoy her company as she is funny and engages in conversations all while listening effectively to their needs. “I always hear a lot stylist not wanting to participate in theory because what is being taught isn’t what they are going to specialize in. As my anxiety rises at the fear of messing up my clients hair, I still want to be able to do everything to the best of my ability so I take part in every aspect I can,” confides Lyric.

The Next Step

Ms. Lyric shares her future plans with only 5 more months left in her program, Ms. Lyric will soon start her hunt for a salon that offers services she wants to provide to her clients. “Over time as I grows my clientele and experience in the beauty industry, I plan on utilizing the Nuts and Bolts Business training I received while in school to open up my own salon.”
